Riding with choke

Hey guys. I've got a 2010 Kawi 250r, with the not-really-a-choke. The bike will stall while I ride it when I pop the clutch in and shift down to first at stops. This really sucks. If I open the "choke" further, it helps quite a bit, but I'm assuming riding with this open is sub-ideal.

I'm taking the bike in for a once over in a few days, what should I ask the mech to look at for this?

Carburetors and maybe a valve adjustment, i'd suggest PMing @ducatiman for all of you carb needs, he does good work from what I've seen.

What RPM does the bike idle at when it is fully warmed up and the choke is completely off? If it is too low, there is a black knob on the left side of the bike, right behind your knee, that sets the idle speed.

Yeah I looked into this. The bike runs really low for maybe the first 15 minutes I'm riding it. If I have it idle at 1300-1500, it will jump to 2000 after a little while, which feels high. I can reach down and readjust at traffic lights, but it's clearly not supposed to do this.

I'm taking it to get looked at tomorrow, I just want a direction to point the mech in. From what I've seen seems most likely a carb issue.

First step Valve adjustment time, probably never been done. It's an important part of engine optimization and tuning, and very overlooked.

Second, If your Bike needs the choke to run after start & warm your pilot jets are blocked, bad news carburetors need to be serviced, send @ducatiman a PM, but good news it's an enrichment circuit, so once you start moving and opening the throttle, it stops working. Pilot jets work from idle to about 1/4 throttle position.

Make sure you adjust the idle speed when the bike is fully warmed up. At least 20 - 30 minutes of riding.
