tire install question
I bought Duro HF 918 tires for my ninja. Going to install them myself. Local rip off ship wants $110.00 a piece to mount and install, and I have to bring them the rim! Anyway I cannot find any paint mark on either of the tires to designate the light spot of the tire. All I found was a white stamp mark - a square with a 8 inside the square, and about 5 inches away a lighter stamp mark, this one a circle with a G on the inside. Both on the sidewalls of the rim. i mean tire.
I contacted Duro by email asking what marking they use to designate the light spot, they have not responded. Has anybody else run into this kind of problem - installed tires on sport bikes that did not have any paint markings. If so is it just a matter of adding extra weight if needed and no big deal or is there something else I need to be aware of? Last futzed with by mauiwowie; April 18th, 2015 at 11:46 PM. |

That is some old school sheet rite there... No light spot (colored dot) means, just toss it on and balance as needed. Duro is not the only manufacture that does NOT denote a "light spot".
Also... where is the heavy spot on your wheel? You got that marked or you just assuming the valve stem area?

For sure gonna find the heavy spot on the wheel when I go to balance it. I know its not always the valve stem. Thanks for your input. You reassured me I was thinking along the right lines.

Dammit Berry! You can't be postin' stuff like this. Us old school guys know where to save an ounce or two here and there that others don't know about.

I just mounted my tires a few weeks ago.
I went with two different tires. One had the light spot dot. The other had no markings at all. I just randomly mounted that one.

Bet you it was at the dealership!
My local guy charges $20 each off the bike and $40 each if you ride to him. He's super old school. Uses tire irons/spoons to unmount/mount. Bad thing is....his rim protectors are paper thin and your rims will have little marks. He also uses this really weird balancing machine. He hangs the wheel parallel to the ground. And puts weight on which ever side is lighter. Old school. But I don't complain for $20 a tire.

Only one dealership here in Maui. Yup they r a rip off. cause they got a monopoly. An no other tire shops will mount motorcycle tires over here. It is easy enough to do so - do not know why. I see plenty cycles on the road. Buying tires and spoons, weights, and other misc. stuff I need to mount my own tires cost me about the same as it would of to have them mount it. But now I can do my own tires from now on. Had to buy everything off amazon n ebay, and had to search hard for companies who dont charge an arm and my first born for shippiing but it was doable. Thats the bitch living in the middle of the pacific I guess.
