Might be getting poor mileage, but also make sure that you're filling the tank all the way up each time.

I think might be is a understatement. 153/4 ~ 38 mpg. Assuming that the rider is riding reasonably and not riding the freeway in 4th gear they should be getting at least 50 if not more. I know from my ride home today I was getting about 65 mpg, but I think thats partially because my bike is running on 1 cylinder.

I often get low to mid 40's, and at times have dipped into the high 30's, but that's running flat-out at high speeds for the full tank. The mongo fuel-mileage survey thread is up here for reference.

My mom always happens to hear when I get pulled over, so I don't speed excessively anymore. The fastest I usually go is 70 (spedo speed, so who knows how fast I am actually going). I miss going fast through the twisties but when you speed through an area for too long the police catch on and that area is a no go.

Just for reference, on my last run to Georgia and back (820 miles each way, one day each way) without saddlebags with the speedo on at least 80 most of the time I got 61mpg. Last year same trip and weather conditions it was in the mid to high 50s. Only other change was dropping a tooth in the rear to 44, already at 15 up front. RPM under 9K even at 80 made the bike less buzzy and virtually eliminated oil consumption. My around town mileage is consistently into the mid to high 60's now with a few tanks at 70 since the sprocket change.

I'm a freeway commuter that travels about 70-75mph 20mi one way. It's overdue for a professional tune up. Nearly 13k mi. On her.
