I agree, not sure how long he is going to be around for. I know from driving experience and being severely cut off that if I was driving like him, I'd be dead, no doubt about it. Just takes one of those to finish him.

That's what I thought. He didn't seem to be going 120-130 mph: other cars would have been half his speed and would be zooming back, rather than him just overtaking them... But then, I have never travelled at those speeds...

I think he is going mph, a lot of people speed here on the freeways and 80 mph is average speed.

I think 120 kph is only like 75-80mph? According to the person that posted the video, he stated mph, if it was only 100kph he would not be passing cars like that...

Either way hes splitting lanes very dangerously, but ill let the experts determine if its mph or kph...

I hate all these squids trying to show off on youtube by recording themselves going in straight lines down the highway. At least most of the vloggers change it up a bit and do city riding and some twisties, but come on now how hard is it to twist a throttle wide open? I'd love to see that guy hit a decreasing radius turn, he would have probably slowed down to 10 mph

Route: US zip code 92126. Mira Mesa Blvd. to I-15 south to I-805 south, ends at Plaza Blvd. Ran out of memory.

In response to those who can't read the previous comments, the speedometer reads in miles per hour (MPH), not Km/h. The route is about 16.3 miles and took 9 minutes and 50 seconds to traverse giving an average speed of a little over 99 MPH. Had it been km/h indicated on the speedo, the video should have been 16 minutes and 47 seconds long.

Yeah, he's in an area with very high average speeds... I do think the speedo is off, though - you see some brake lights and some bunched cars in there. I don't doubt that he's doing over 100 based on closing speeds, but his speedo's gotta be 10% off.

What he's doing is illegal in CA also. Unless they've changed the law since I was last out there, it reads that lane splitting is only legal if a) speed is under 35 mph *AND* b) closing speed is < 15 mph. So it's legal to split your normal rush hour traffic, but not legal to split at a buck five.

100km/h is 60mph so this is def in mph
unless the speed limit on a freeway or interstate is 45..

still thats pretty dangerous, bike are hard enough to see in a car, imagine switching lanes and having a bike hit u going 120
would that be his fault or yours? im thinkin his but idk

With video games, you get spare lives. With real bikes, you only have one. Screw up and it's game over. I value my life more than some people do apparently.

The law doesn't read that at all. In fact there isn't any law on the books that describes lanesplitting speed or closing speed. It is just not illegal. This can be a pain in the ass, as different LEO's that have different opinions aboiut what is appropriate can always cite for "unsafe lane change" or reckless driving in general if a motorcyclist is behaving in a way that they feel merits it. And many might in fact agree with your guidelines, and personally they seem reasonable to me.

What the rider is doing isn't necessarily illegal because of the lane-splitting though, but the speeding is pretty cut and dried.

Necro!

That was pretty much my daily commute for a couple years there... always on the 2fiddy unless it was raining and my sister/roommate didn't need her car. Well, I usually took the fork to the right right and headed down CA-163 because it was more interesting, especially at Balboa Park where traffic would back up (didn't stop me *shiftyeyes*).

That's only a bit faster than my usual time and I averaged 80-90MPH, 90-100 indicated, 12-15 minutes total, and zero LEO interest despite my out-of-state plate. I lived directly off the first exit that he passes within seconds of getting on the freeway. And I mean literally right there too: the only traffic control sign/device between me and the freeway was the ramp's stop light.

In general, I was faster than most all traffic but intentionally never the fastest I would see on my daily commute unless something abnormal was impeding the cages. There's something fishy about that supposed speed.

I am glad he or she feels that comfortable riding at those speeds but in the traffic it is insulting to the riding community.

If that were a video of a car weaving in front of packs of bikes, we would be in an uproar, in the streets on our 250s with pitchforks.

Sharing the road goes both ways.

you forget theres a difference between a car and a bike? that persons speedo is about 30% off. they arent being very smart choosing where to lane split but his closing speed is not very high. California is a different environment for bikes.

My point is if those other drivers perceive someone who rides a bike as reckless and has no regard for his or her own safety, then why should they bother to be safe around bikers? Then every one of us has to deal with that perception while we are on the road.

In my opinion, that riding does not further a safe perception of riding.

things are different in california. hes not a very good rider, but hes not making anyone mad. people here get mad at dumbasses cruising like a car taking up too much room. lane sharing is not only legal its encouraged here. theres just too much traffic here. and really the traffic he was splitting in wasnt bad at all.
