I once snuck into a special event at the local Zoo because I was wearing black shorts and a tan collared shirt, and my wallet had a chain on it. The buffet was great, and even had beer! The Hi-Viz idea is excellent.

It's amazing what you can get away with if you just act like you're supposed to be there.

Definately true with the high vis vest All it really takes is looking the part, and acting like your supposed to be there. People don't really question the look of things much nowadays, that's why it's so easy.

I wear a high vis vest while riding, and people think I'm a cop or some kind of authority figure, because they stay away from me in traffic, never ride my ass, wait instead of pulling out in front of me, actually look out for me, and a host of other courteous things I've never gotten even once while riding without it. It works so good here, that I never ride without it now.

I've worked as a stagehand for many years, working shows ranging from Justin Beiber to the Rolling Stones, in many different venues. A tool belt and a look on your face that says "I friggin don't want to be here" will get you in anywhere and past the most stringent security.

I'm ashamed to say that I'm not surprised this happened here in Australia

Before hi-vis vests became the safety saviors of the world walking around with a clipboard and acting like you belonged worked very well.

Yep. Doesn't look the coolest, but I'd rather not get mangled by an inattentive driver than look cool personally. It's neon green, highly reflective, and grabs people's attention, which is what you want.

When I ride my white Moto Guzzi and I'm wearing my blue and white jacket, it sometimes appears that other drivers think I'm a cop. Some in front of me will go just under the speed limit, for example. It's interesting that your appearance can have such an effect on the behavior of other drivers.
