2010 Ninja 250r won't fire

Hi guys, i have a 2010 Ex250r ninja. Rode it to work, and at lunch, went to leave, and the key wouldnt fit in the ignition, previously it would only fit in one way, the guys at work laughed and said i was doing it wrong, all 3 others couldnt get it to work, long story short, smashed off ignition barrel as couldnt get it out of steering lock, re-wired and twisted together appropriate wires after looking at a wiring diagram that i saw on here. It now cranks over but wont start, test spark, has no spark, found it has power on the red wire at one of the coils, and no signal at the black wire. Any ideas?

Do the new gens need that resistor mod to fire?

There is circuit inside ignition switch that needs to be connected to CDI box in order for spark to fire.

Your best bet is to put it all back together and lube the lock cylinder. Some PB Blaster works really well to free up sticky lock tumblers.

a lot of the cheap ones don't have the resistor in them so you'll still have to solder one in

This is correct. Like any circuit, one wire goes to +12v (red) and the other (black) to... ???

GROUND!!!

Black wire is open (disconnected) and grounded momentarily by ignition-box to fire coil. Can't see signal without oscilloscope. Similar to headlight circuits on most import cars, +12v is sent to bulb full-time. Then headlight-switch grounds other side of bulb when you want them on.

Also there should be +12v power on red wire of both coils. It's exact same wire leaving kill-switch, just gets split into 2 with Y-connection on way to coils. Better check that this Y didn't get disconnected to one side.

The black wire is a signal pulse from the cdi unit, you can test/ observe the pulse with a LED test light
