T-mobile and why you shouldn't use them

first and foremost- they have ****** support. they used to be good. but now they have become a clone of AT&T. overly prices rates. false advertising. everybody sees this ****. everybody knows its happening to them. are you tired of it? i sure as **** was so i cancelled and switched to StraightTalk wireless. they use the same towers as T-mobile. same everything. you don't need to "unlock" your phone or do anything special outside of buying the sim card ($15 one time fee). i pay less than T-mobile (i pay $45/mo unlimited everything), and have ACTUAL unlimited internet. not "unlimited internet! (limited to 1kb/s after 6gb)"

when i cancelled they gave me a ton of **** and wound up scamming me out of about 100$ extra. because i had the phone that i cancelled on after i told them to cancel it. interesting right? i've given up trying to get my money back, even after a supervisor had promised me a refund. so now i'm making it my mission to convert as many t-mobile customers to straighttalk as i can.

call t-mobile and tell them you want to switch your contract to a monthly plan. if they wont do it tell them you'll pay the early termination fee and switch service if they don't. they will transfer it for free to keep you as a customer. after 10 days, call back and cancel the auto payment and explain you'll be switching to another company. don't accept their "55$ plan". its actually $70 and is still the same piece of **** plan you've hated. make sure it gets cancelled and they don't try to **** you out of extra money.

there is no reason to stay with a bad company, especially when there are better alternatives.

PM me if you would like more convincing. or if you are with T-mobile and think its good.

FYI Straight talk isn't 100% unlimited either.

That said, it's one of the best carriers. I also dumped at&t (and comcast) home service for sonic.net and they've been ****ing awesome.

I've never had problems with T-Mobil. I've had nothing but problems with AT&T, I haven't used anyone else.

T-mobile does have crap customer service, but I'm coo with my no-contract monthly plan..$30 bucks for unlimited text and 4G(up to 5 gigs and then wack) w/ 100 minutes, which is enough for me..

I got lucky with this plan and I shouldn't have any problems, but if anything comes up, I'll be sure to check out Straight talk..thanks!

Verizon seems to have the best coverage, even in rural areas here in the south.

Scammed me into paying them some money, didn't come through on what i was supposed to get, so I got my money back through the card issuer, and I'm still dealing with those scam artists destroying my credit rating. Didn't realize it at the time, but they are probably the reason i couldn't get a loan on my ninja through a decent company and ended up paying 500 dollars "financing fee" on a 3k dollar loan @ 20 points.

So AT&T will never get my business.

Verizon and Sprint are the best, depending on where you are at, but you pay a premium price for that service. I'm not interested in paying almost 100 dollars for a single line of service on a phone, right now through T-mobile I pay 50.

I've had more dropped calls and worse service overall with Verizon than with T-Mobile.

As soon as my contract is up in October, I am going to Straight Talk. My girlfriend uses them, and her service is every bit as good as mine.

It's all about your preference and luck.

This is my breakdown:
  • T-Mobile - cheapest, least amount of high-end handsets - more flexible plans than most. Coverage is spotty outside of big cities, but they are working on it.
  • Sprint - still lower end, slightly more expensive. Fear of where they're going with the company.
  • AT&T - high-end phones, expensive plans. Customer support that won't budget when you make a request.
  • Verizon - high-end phones, but often slower than most to get them. Great coverage. Best customer satisfaction rate.

Customer support of each really is about experience/luck, how you treat them, and who you get. I've found that T-Mobile support has been very good and accommodating.

The dilemma I constantly face is that I can only bounce between AT&T and T-Mobile. I need GSM technology for reliable international texting and Sprint's/Verizon's CDMA networks don't provide that.

I've also found that (as with most things) - customer support and service is vastly different/better when you have a business account.

Just my 2¢...

StraightTalk - cheaper than all of those you listed, works with any phone including gsm or cdma. no contracts. coverage exactly the same as t-mobile or at&t (whichever is the dominant carrier in the area- they lease the bandwidth) on 4g i get an easy 10mbps. customer service isn't the best, but you don't really need to talk to them 99% of the time unlike other carriers... they only have 2 plans, the unlimited for 45/mo, or the cheap one with only 500minutes and unlimited text and data for like 30/mo. because their rate plans are so straight forward and simple, you don't run the risk of accidentally screwing something up and them charging you a **** ton of money like all the other carriers like to do.

I don't have much experience with anything outside the major carriers. I was under the impression places like StraightTalk charged their own early termination fees, in addition to the carrier. Or is StraightTalk a network of its own?

straight talk is their own carrier. they have no contracts which means no early termination fees. they lease air time from whichever the largest carrier in the area is. you only pay straight talk and there is no involvement with any other company.

Never heard of this carrier, I've been on Verizon for as long as I can remember. I've never had a smart phone so I don't know how much it is to actually own an iPhone on either carrier.

Is Straight Talk actually a good deal vs. getting a 2-year contract with a major carrier? I don't have any problems with Verizon, does anyone know the true total cost of ownership for 2 years on a major carrier vs. Straight Talk?

you are paying your carrier for a loan to buy a phone when you use their 2-year contract subside phones. that's why their contracts are more expensive. however people don't realize you can get most phones for cheaper than they offer them.

I understand frustrations with a company when you get crappy service and feel duped. But there's no reason to treat someone like sh*t when they have nothing to do with the company policies/decisions. People in the service industry have to put up with enough crap already. A thank you and how's your day going goes a long way.

this is called bad service. it's nice to hear someone from t-mobile openly admit it.

i make a point to always be courteous and kind. but when someone tells me that t-mobile is not going to refund me charges that they already admitted were mistakes simply because some manager failed to make a note of it... how do you want me to respond? "Oh ok! thanks sir, i'll just go **** myself in the ass now". no. i respond with persistence. and when the ****** service rep starts yelling at me, i yell back. you know that whole "we record this message for quality!" well guess what. they will only go look up the recording if it suits them or if its required legally. even though that recording would prove that i'm right, they are wrong. they don't care about being nice or correct.

I'm not against you on that. I just mean the first person you talk to has very limited power. If something goes wrong just ask for a manager (then feel free to rip them a new one). I've found that emailing their exec office does wonders. And the recording thing is a bit ridiculous. I had an issue a few years ago when they claimed I signed up for another 2 years when I didn't. I told them to provide me with a recording of me saying that and they said it wasn't possible. Record it yourself and when they say we need to inform you this call is being recorded - say ditto!

I guess YMMV, particularly by location. I had Sprint for 2 years. In my area "unlimited data" meant "you're lucky if you can equal 1993 dial-up modem speeds" and from those I speak to, it still does. Even at company-discounted prices, I spent 18 of my 24 contract months counting the days until the end of the contract.

Elsewhere? Maybe people are very happy with Sprint. I just wouldn't recommend them to anyone who wants a smartphone in my area.

T-Mobile is taking the brave step to get out of the subsidized-price, contract world. However, for those who still want the discounted phones, they offer to 'let' you pay $x for two years, contingent on ETFs.

I have yet to hear of a carrier playing 'nice' with their ETFs. They're brutal; they're intended to be brutal. CSRs don't typically just waive them on a whim or even for the "irate customer."

I am currently off-contract. I have a cheapo phone for which I pay T-Mob $30/month. It functions. If I dislike it, I can switch any time. For everything else, I have a tablet and wifi everywhere I'm stationary. When I'm not stationary, I have two hands full of handlebars and no interest in tweets, messages, or telephone conversations.

LMFAO! Ah man I feel for you.

T-Mobile is actually coming under fire for their new "contract-free" offerings. Since you can't leave until your handset is paid off (well you can leave, but you'll owe them some money - which might as well be labeled an ETF just like all the rest).
