Millions of Americans admit to drunk driving, CDC finds
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/millions...ing-cdc-finds/
"A new study finds that close to 2 percent of American adults -- about 4.2 million people -- admitted to driving while intoxicated at least once over the prior month. ....... According to the study, men aged 21 to 34 made up a third of all drunk driving episodes, while men overall made up 80 percent of impaired drivers."

Does this surprise anyone? Sad to say, if I'd had to guess, I would have thought the percentage higher than 2%. I see drunks on the road all the time, especailly at night.

Ages ago, I opted to go with a friend to a presentation on the consequences of driving under the influence (it was mandatory for him, I was just curious).
After everyone was seated (maybe 60 people), the officer in charge pointed out a line of maybe 5 or 6 folks in the back of the room. They had driven to their DUI class and failed the breathalyzer at the door.

Sadly, that’s true. I don’t know why so many people do drunk driving. Even my uncle even after working with a Los Angeles DUI lawyer did drunk driving couple of times and was never caught. I always ask him about benefit of him watching such cases closely when he didn’t learnt his lesson!

Impaired driving is bad. Part of what makes it bad is that once you're impaired, your judgment regarding your level of impairment is compromised. We're all familiar with that guy who's completely trashed slurring, "I'm not drunk!"
On the other hand, US drunk driving laws are based on an essentially arbitrary BAC number, which has been lowered a number of times. The laws don't necessarily correspond to when someone is actually drunk. Quote:
