Custom Paint Job Ideas

Hello all!

I have a friend who works at a body shop and has access to everything needed for a full custom paint job. I have to pay for the paint and we will both do the prepping and he will spray it.

Im looking for people's input on colors, ideas, and any pictures that they have that would be helpful.

The bike is an 07 Ninja 250 black w/ red flames.

Will most likely be doing a fender delete and definitely removing the flame decals before the paint job.

Here is what she looks like now.

That bike looks like brand new. I wouldn't touch it. It's beautiful.

Thats just because of my beautiful photography! There is soo much damage and scrapes everywhere.

But for $100 i could get a nice paint job. I will prob do something with candy colors.

Do you want a design? Any starting point at all? Inspiration?

For mine I knew I wanted a sort of throw-back racer style without being so much that it was insulting to actual old race bikes.

Any graphics?

I did a photoshop of mine before the final cut. Not a bad idea. I could do yours.
If you're on we can livestream it and you can tell me what you want.

No graphics or any real designs for now. Just a solid color or a couple colors. I was thinking some exotic type color... like a ferarri orange. Or maybe candy colors and it would be the italian flag... red white and green.

Can you do photoshops of those?

Ps thanks for offering your help!

No specifics, but some guidelines

1: Please don't try to make it look like a MotoGP bike. It's a Ninja 250, fergawdsake. The only people you'd impress are 12-year-old boys. Nothing screams "LAME" to me like the Repsol wannabe graphics on the CBR250R.

2: Simple, understated and classy always trumps flashy and gimmicky. Pick colors and graphic treatments that will look as good 20 years from now as they do today. For evidence of what not to do, look at some of the colors Honda and Kawi used in the 1980s. When Miami Vice was cool giving bikes pink and teal stickers probably seemed like a good idea. Looking back it makes you want to throw up in your mouth a little.

3: Please avoid bike-night poser crap like polished parts, LEDs up the wazoo and suchlike. Keep it simple, keep it classy.

4: The old classic John Player Special treatment (black with understated gold accents and gold wheels) always looked classy IMHO. Just sayin'.

I went with flat black on mine, but I'm not too big on "standing out". When I bought my bike there were actually 2 red led strips on either side facing the engine, so I moved them to the front and rear illuminating the tires and out away a little just to make me a bit more noticeable at night

Uhhh… yah. I give you Exhibit A. This was the factory paint job:

Hey, I owned a 1989 Kawi EX500. Candy red over pearl white… with pink stripes. Paint was gorgeous. Stickers… not so much.
