Police rear seat cowl?

So, here I log into my favorite 250 site and up pops this picture that I am about to skip past as I delve into the latest unread posts when my eyes actually look at the picture.

What is this magic box and where do I get it??? That rear cowl looks perfect!

Yeah, I've seen the Malaysian force, though the only problem with their cowl is A ) it's on a 300 and B ) it looks like they just bolted a strong box on top of the cowl.

That's what really caught my eye about the gallery pic, it's on a 250 and it looks like the cowl is molded to resemble the stock part - at least from the back anyway! I'll have to just figure out a way to find that pic in here.

But that also got me thinking, just how does one go about ordering police parts. Like the saddlebags or crash bars. Cops have to carry a lot of stuff and it has to be durable. So how does the public get our hands on it?

Those orders are usually put out to tender, they post a spec & the lowest bidder gets it. They order a **** load of spares too, so bits may be custom made

You'll have some job finding it, if they even make the winner publicly available.

The latches and hinges look so lazy and lame.

I think you would be better off buying some pre made universal plastic abs saddle bags and making your own frame and hinge kit.... then you get some extra locks and key them to your ninjette key. flush mount GLORY!

Cept I don't want the saddle bags, I have those (lame @$$ soft ones, but still). I do really like the box on the back seat though. That would be ally handy like a small glove compartment or emergency supplies for day rides. Maybe even squeeze a rain liner in there.

Teri, you can fit an ENORMOUS amount of soft/stuffable... um... stuff inside the tail compartment. The "cheeks" are hollow*.

I've put a full-sized bike cover in there.

You can also put a small stuff sack up inside the cowl (assuming you have one) to carry small items.

*Note that I could have said "you can stuff a whole bunch of crap inside the cheeks of your tail" but I didn't. 'cause I'm classy like that.

Oh I like the string idea to hold stuff up inside the cowl. I've just been using the front and back bracket to jam the tire repair kit up in there with a bandana stuck behind it. My enlarged tool kit and necessary bike documents fill up the rest of that cubby.

I've been using the void in the cheeks

to hold the bungee cord for my disk lock. If I could remove those covers easier, I'd totally use stuff sacks in there to hold rain gear or emergency supplies.

I may try cramming the jacket and pants liner in each side and seeing if removing them is efficient enough for getting out and on when caught in a downpour.

Edit: nice to see my grommet isn't the only one that has issues. That rear peg on the cowl is a PITA!

Liners are too thick to stuff easily into the cheeks but I did borrow your string idea and bungeed them into the bump of the cowl. All fits nice up in there and now I have rain liners with me all the time.

Hurm, wonder what the capacity is on that? I've managed to get a tail bag that I like but a hard locking case would be better for longer runs. Plus it looks like its removable so I can carry my fuel canisters along under it.

It attaches exacly like the seat. It probably holds a lot. Not extremely attractive, but if the lid was painted to match the bike it may not look so clunky.
