[motorcycledaily.com] - Honda Introduces 2014 CBR650F and Interceptor 800 for U.S. Ma

In addition to the revised CB1100 and CB1100 Deluxe we posted earlier today, Honda has unveiled additional 2014 models, including the four-cylinder CBR650F pictured above and the Interceptor pictured below, which we described in detail when it was introduced to the European market earlier this year (Europe calls it the VFR800F). Some of the details […]

very interesting, I have been looking at the Fz6r a lot recently, and Honda seems to have taken to that more sharp-angled styling. I dig.

Nah... I was initially excited by this but then Yamaha announced the MT07!

Compared to that the Honda just seems heavy and boring to me. They should have kept the Hornet

Fantastic. The CBR650F is exactly what I was looking for when I bought my GSX650F this year. I'm happy with the zook, but I couldn't believe how hard it was to buy a new, I4, non-supersport, middleweight sport bike. The FZ6R just feels a bit too neutered, and the other options are naked (FZ6,). Great to have more options in this class of bike.

^^ this looks like a great option for me. Not sure I want to live with an SS, definitely want a bigger bike for street use later on (and who wouldn't take an cheater 650 I4 tuned for midrange instead of a 650 twin? dat sound. ). I'll check this out for sure.

Still waiting on the 300cc option from Yamaha to compare with the KTM and the ninjette as well. I want a good middleweight street bike for sport touring/commuting/2-up/weekend rides, and a small high strung track/twistykiller bike.

I might end up being a Kawi traitor with a Honda and a Yami.

Keep it light (sub-450 lb), make it possible to readily tweak the ergos (e.g. room for clip-ons if I want them), make it luggage-friendly and price it reasonably, and you have my attention. The power and torque are in the butter zone for a daily ride, the looks are good to my eye.

The FZ6 and the GSX650F both struck me as too heavy and not interesting enough.

Too bad they will be mostly covered up by the fairings on the CBR version. They should bring the CB650F here as well.

Looking good. I'm hoping this makes Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha get off their butts and refresh their current sport touring faired 600/650 offerings. The FZ6R has existed in its current form since 2009 and the GSX650 since 2008. Honda definitely spotted an opportunity here.

well, it seems that the cbr only has a few hp on the 6r. slightly lighter sure but does that justify the price difference? don't get me wrong, I think Honda might stir up some good competition in the market, and they make great bikes, but that price is a bit high for what it is. One can get an fz9 or 8 for that price.

Well, the fz8 and 9 are naked, so for some of us, they aren't the right competition. The CBR here is more than just a little more powerful and a little lighter: it looks to be built as a more serious sport bike. The brakes look promising, hopefully the suspension isn't junk, and it looks to have raised clip-ons instead of a handlebar (hopefully making adjustment easier). The hp and torque curve will also matter, and my prediction (and hope) is that this new CBR will have smoke the fz6r in performance, quality, and general ability to handle the sportier side of having a one-bike solution (read: be a sometimes track-bike).

that's true. I hopefully this will spark yama do update their bike and kawi to do the same. We might see a few new bikes in the coming years (which would be sick !!!). The price is the thing that's bugging me though. If the performance is better than the 6r and ninja, then they might have a winner.

Just noticed that you guys in the US get a non-ABS option where we get standard ABS and I think the same goes for Europe.

I like the looks of this bike and was hoping they'd bring it to the US when they announced it. Glad to see some positive reception here, over on PNW riders everyone's talking crap about it and the VFR because they're heavy and underpowered and cost more than the lighter, more powerful FZ-09, though they seem to omit the fact the FZ is naked and not designed to do what either of these bikes are. It seems like ninjette is one of the few sites where power and weight isn't everything lol.

Thanks for that link - still not digging the numbers too much but the matte grey fairing does look good!

Also, just compared prices for the ABS Model. US: 9000$, Germany 8555€=11500$!

Yup, I started a thread over on the fz6r forum and no one seems too trilled either. But I mean the bike looks great, and I'm liking it more as time goes by. Well except for that seat (I hate single piece banana seats) but I don't see it as under powered. Its got slightly more hp than the 6r and is slightly lighter. Plus, that v tech haha

I don't think the 650F has Vtec like Interceptor. Vtec also seems to ride on divided public opinion But it is a welcome change to the lineup considering that we were writing it off for being not stateside bound last November. The price is a bit higher than I would have hoped but it seems far enough out there to not significantly cannibalize the 500R.

What's next? A sport/sport tourer Kawi w/ a modified 636 engine?

Awwww must've gotten the bikes mixed up

That would be sick lol the 6r runs on a de tuned old r6 engine, so it's not completely unheard of
