93 zx6 for 200.00

I'm thinking about buying this 93 zx6 this guy is selling the bike has been sitting out in his yard for about a year and a half uncoverd and in the weather, upon further inspection I noticed the clutch assembley was missing and also the carbs. I figured I would buy it as a project to work on while I polish my skills on my 250 the frame and fairings seem to be in decent shape I know it will need new tires sprocket chain engine carbs etc. I wanted to know if its worthe the cost to restore it or I should just save my money and put towards a newer and bigger bike.

I'd offer him $100 for it. At that price, even if you don't try to get it running, you can at least get some practice wrenching without fear of doing permanent damage.

Get the VIN off the bike and check with LA DMV. Check parking tickets, registration update, salvage, stolen? There's a reason that the bike is sitting there. IMO.

an e is the older generation R... more of a touring bike than the "race replica" but its still a good bike.
it sounds like you're basically buying a frame, fairings and a parts motor with scrap parts everywhere else?... you need to know what condition each piece is in.
is the frame rusted through? is the motor scrap metal? if the frame is in decent condition its worth at least 300... good condition oem fairings also sell for pretty well. like i said if the parts aren't damaged, you've got a good deal. rebuilding it will cost you. it will probably cost more to get it in good shape than it would be to buy an already running 93 in decent shape... but if you're looking for a project or looking to part it out you've got a good deal. if the parts are in good or even decent shape you could make some money parting it out.

bring a flashlight. try to look inside everything you can. do things that are suppose to move move? does it roll? the battery is probably dead but try turning it on. does it go in gear? it doesn't have a clutch assembly... is it currently in neutral? if you apply shifter pressure and roll it what happens? do the brakes work? what about the shocks? hold the fr brake and push it forward... do the forks feel like forks? do they even move?
basically try everything you can so you know exactly what you're dealing with

also if its not a friend or its someone you don't like... like said above... offer less. worst case is he doesn't go for it. if you want to pay full price for it then at least you tried... i don't usually haggle with friends though so even if it is a friend that's your call

This could be fun. But be aware you wont be the first guy who picks up a project bike for nothing and ends up throwing more cash into getting her running than a nicer, newer bike would've cost.
