fuel cap issues
ok i bought my bike used and abused, not to worried about it because i did alot of reading about these bikes before i bought it and they seem very solid. my fuel cap is damaged some how and it leaks ,after i first brought it home i could hear it hiss when shut off and then a big storm blew through and i got a bunch of water in the tank. drained it new fuel ran fine then i blew through the rear tire and it sat covered for a couple weeks ran like crap for 15 minutes today,i can assume moisture is the culprit. im running long here sorry..on e bay race caps run 50 bucks if i remeber has anyone tried these?

why not just another stocker? Look on ebay for the Tampa Bay Chop Shop.. I've bought a few things from him.. good parts.
Maybe bring your cap and have a locksmith rekey the new one? I saw some for about $50

No leaks here just the typical whine when it gets hot out and the tank vents.

is there any way to stop this?...like maybe just drill a hole so it doesnt build pruessure or does it need the pressure in the tank?...i dont know much about carburated motors

ethanol?
yeah im pretty sure we have like a 10% mix of ethanol i allways read it on the pump but its one of those things i cant remember for sure. i think the kid that had the bike befoe me gave the cap a knock somehow while it was open, i like the look of the twist off caps on ebay but am not sure about giving up my locking feature

ethanol has a tendency to attract water in the tank when left for extended periods of time. can that be the cause of the water you're seeing?
also, there should be a rubber gasket on the inside of the gas cap to help seal when the cap is closed and locked. does your bike have that gasket? it sounds like there may be a cap alignment problem? if so, post up some pics so we can see how bad it is. |

my leaky cap
no i had a full tank and left it out in the rain one night, visually the cap and seals look fine. when locked down its just slightly not flush i know its spring loaded and i can press on it and wiggle the cap while shut. i can hear it vent from the cap also

if it were me, I'd just replace it with a spare OEM cap off Ebay. If you do, make sure they include the key to unlock it with the cap assembly.
gas prices are going up... you don't want someone to be able to access an unlocked gas cap. |
