Slipping clutch

Hi all,

I recently noticed that i had a bit of clutch slip if i am not careful with the throttle. I also remembered that i recently took apart the clutch cover to replace the oil level lens and try to figure out a problem with my clutch.

When i fixed my clutch problem i tightened down the clutch spring bolts, however with a cheap Torque wrench.

Do you guys think that it is a possibility that i didn't tighten the clutch spring bolts enough to put enough tension on the clutch discs?

Just to mention though, the clutch has over 3000 km on it as that is how long i owned it for.

Possibly a torque issue. What is the current status?

Do you mean, what is the torque on them?

The reason i started this thread is because i heard that clutch discs don't go very often on these bikes and more often than not its something else causing the slippage.

I think he means the bolts were not torqued down enough.

Yep, do you have a manual and a torque wrench?

why would you remove the clutch springs/bolts to replace the sight glass in the cover?

certain oils with friction modifiers can make the clutch go sooner. being slow / hard on the clutch or doing wheelies will too.

I was mocking around trying to figure out what happened when my clutch cable tore off... I misdiagnosed and started to pull apart the clutch and saw nothing wrong, gave another nice tug at the cable and sure enough, the cable came out.

This was my first bike, and i have done 3000 km on it. I have gotten much better but i know i was hard on the clutch initially, for example engine breaking without rev matching (blipping).

I will re-torque those things on my next oil change, which will be any day now.

One last thing i wanted to mention was that i noticed a gear that was very loose near the clutch. If looking at the clutch basket, it is underneath it and deeper. Should it be loose?

if you mean the gear at the bottom, that is the oil pump.

Thanks for the pic BTW

In any case, should ANY bolts have play in them in that area?

Well i just did an oil change and it is the oil pump sprocket that has play in it... So much so that it is visible when moved.

Is it a huge concern, i see something like a cottor pin on there?
