Washing Motorcycle Helmet Liner
You know how when you new clothes or something like a fleece blanket, it's all nice and soft, then you wash it once and it's matted and never the same again? I'm worried about doing that with the liner of my helmet. Just curious if you guys was them, and how, and if they come out of the wash the same way you put them in (except clean) I'm worried theyre gonna come out not as fluffy and my helmet won't fit right.
Btw I have a HJC. |

I have thrown the liner to my RF1100 into the washing machine once with towels. I air dried them before reinstalling to my helmet. Came out nice and clean without any odd matting.

I soak mine in that Dr Bronners peppermint liquid soap in a dilution of 1 in 100 in luke warm water, squeeze the stuff in and work it with your hands in the sink till the water is propper grubby and you think you've washed it all twice over, rinse in fresh water while doing the same thing and you're done.
Don't use washing power with enzymes also labled bio or biological, I wouldn't even use washing powder / liquid, I find the stuff too harsh on my nose and skin and wouldn't want it that close to my face for prolonged periods with no escape, the Dr Bronners stuff is good, I have to import it from the USA at a great cost, but it's worth it. |

1) Wear a lightweight balaclava or at least a head covering at all times to keep it from getting gross and to reduce the need to clean.*
2) Remove at end of riding season and chuck in washing machine, gentle, cold. 3) Air-dry THOROUGHLY and reinstall. 4) Done. Works great. * One of these days I'm going to get around to a pet project... recycling all my old worn T-shirts into balaclavas. I have one I got at an indoor karting track for free, which is basically just two flat pieces of cotton jersey sewn together. That makes for a simple pattern.

I wash mine in the washing machine with regular ol' detergent. Hang Dry for a day or two. Good-to-go.

I think arai mentions to wash them with hair shampoo. gentle for skin, designed to take out crap that would be in your hair, that would have gotten your pads dirty.
I keep meaning to clean mine, but I procrastinate. |

Hand washing > machine
I wash mine at least once a month and bein that its summer 2 times a month. I ride a lot with my visor up so pads get dirty pretty quick.

I just take the pads with me when I shower whenever they need to be cleaned. Soap/Shampoo (I typically use Baby Shampoo -- the no tears kind just in case), Rinse, and repeat until the water that is squeezed out is crystal clear.
