Quick pointer about posting pics of your bikes

I just wanted to point out that everyone (or most) are being very good about blurring or covering their license plates when posting pic's of their bikes, but I have noticed that many of you forget to take out your registration tags, many states include your license number on the stickers so make sure you blur them out too. keep up the great photography.

I never worry about that kinda stuff. If I were in a high theft area... maybe.

I'm not sure I understand...

How does a pic of your tag lead to theft? Excuse my ignorance on this subject matter.

I Don't really know if it leads to theft, I just know that there are creepy types out there and with the web they can find all your info from your tag #

It's much harder to get any info from the plate without being a LEO. Laws passed after the Rebecca Shaffer stalker here in California really locked that information down compared to years past, at least in this state.

I do it out of respect for the other riders personal information.

Being a female rider there is a chance that someone could consider me easy pray. Not anyone on this site (mebe -.- hehe just kidding) but my pictures are hosted and shared elsewhere. I wouldn't want someone who wished me harm getting my plates and identifying me. That is if they are local of course.

Another thing is if the pictures are of a not so lawful nature...

I figure people driving behind me can see it and could follow me to my home if they really wanted to. I've never bothered to blur mine out.

I always wonder why so many people blur it. That said, license numbers can be used for ID theft. AFAIK, GA doesn't do that.

someone who steals a bike might replace that stolen license plate with a fake one stolen from a photo of a similar bike. that means whatever idiot things they do with that stolen bike + your license number comes back to you, not them. i doubt anyone would take the time to look up license info to go steal a bike. you can walk down the street and find plenty of them without looking anything up.

I guess I can see that as a possibility... but that still wouldn't stop someone from seeing my bike in person and doing the same thing. The only thing that would encourage is someone from out of state stealing my plate number. Seems like a lot of work on someone elses behalf.
