The 4-6-8 Cadillac of the eighties was a disaster and was soon dispensed with. It was a good idea as has been proven today but a little ahead of the technology of the day then. Just like Chevrolet fuel injection of the fifties and sixties. They are prized today because of their rarity not because of their function. During the early seventies GM came out with a diesel that flopped because it was based on the 350 small block gasoline engine. After many failures they abandoned the technology. A diesel must be very much more robust than a gas engine mainly due to the extreme heat and pressures needed for efficient combustion. My dd is an E320 CDI and I've decided I'll never return to gas in a dd car. The torque is amazing. Its six has only 11 lbs/ft less than my 350hp Stingray.

I like the new Corvette but I'm not a girl or in my 70s so it doesn't fit the bill for me. Besides, you can't top a 67' 427 Coupe.

I prefer pushrod motors, you only need to buy one cam. Sure it doesn't rev as high, but you just use a different cam profile. No biggy. Oh, and the motor also tends to be smaller and weigh less. For example, here is a 4.6L Ford V8 and the older 5.0 pushrod V8.

the compactness of push rod motors is a big advantage in small cars.
its what made it popular for swaps.

^^ Imitation is the most pure form of flattery The 599 is a beautiful car. I've had the honor of chasing one through some twisties before. It cornered very flat and sounded fantastic

For all those saying the taillights are not round, If I'm not mistaken, the C4 vettes didn't have round taillights either. This corvette is like something a high class hooker popped out after "getting around" and it had a baby with all the features of high end cars put into one.

Even though it's not technically mid-engine, isn't that engine smooshed as far back as it will go?

Certainly all of the sports car designers try to go for even weight distribution, or so I would assume, but the engine is either in front of the driver or behind the driver
I prefer the look of a mid engine, thats the majority of the issue for me. It does also help with weight distribution. |
