It shouldn't do anything to them, but don't put your wallet with ATM card in it, anything with a magnetic strip could be affected.

I've never had stuff right up next to the magnets, but I keep my wallet (with cards in it), cell phone, and ipod in the side pouches, never have any issues.

Try not to put any CRT monitors in your bag. Also keep HDD's away

it had a magnet it in it. when i put a hotel card in it, it would wipe out. so i cut it and ripped the magnets out. makes a nice small wallet

When I used to work IT support, people would regularly put fridge magnets on their steel computer cases. In some cases it caused serious issues (random rebooting, system errors).
It's a basic fact of physics that magnets induce current in an electrical circuit when they are moved in its vicinity. In addition, current does not flow normally through a magnetic field. Therefore, although some people do not experience problems when putting a computer near a magnet, some devices absolutely will not work properly. The myth is that your data will be wiped. This isn't the problem (it won't be wiped; that really is a myth, unless you're dealing with an MRI machine or other large electromagnet). The actual issue is that a magnet has the potential to seriously screw up a device, especially if it's moving near the circuit board. It can induce levels of current that could be damaging to the device. Still, if it's a weak enough magnet, I wouldn't worry too much. The rare earth magnets from hard drives are fairly strong for their size, but I don't think they're be too big a problem. If you start having issues with electronic devices stored in the tank bag, you might want to try another solution. |

If it's moved through the magnetic field it's likely to fail faster than if it's left in place afaik. |

Some phones have magnetic relay switches to detect when they are in car docks versus home docks and other accessories or for telling when they are opened/closed without a mechanical switch. Magnets can cause havoc. If you find your battery half-dead because it kicked on in car nav mode where it was expected to be on charge, don't blame us.
