Ninja 250 Theft?

I just purchased a 2010 Ninja 250 about a month ago and I am now taking it back to college with me. Several people from the dealership I bought it from said I need to lock it to something on campus and at my apartment because it's so light it's very easily prone to theft. They also suggested an alarm as well. Any experience with theft like this or suggestions for me? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Make sure you have theft coverage on your insurance.
If someone wants it bad enough they will get it.

+1 for theft insurance. Locks only keep honest people honest.

insurance is all you need and only because if someone really wants it they are going to get it regardless...everything else you buy is only for your own piece of mind and if you can afford it.

Once I really start driving it to different places I might consider an alarm only so I can have the sensors for when someone is messing with it at work or wherever. I don't even leave my helmet locked on the bike, the helmet cost me close to 400 bucks so it's right under my deductible which means I'd be better just buying a new one if it were ever stolen.

Actually that brings up a great point, I need to see what coverage my helmet and other gear falls under and see about lowering just that deductible...thanks OP!

My dad got his ninja stolen from his apartment back when he was in college in the 80s. The guys were stealing sinks, and his bike was chained around one of the copper pipes that they took, so they took the bike as well.

Good luck with the bike and good luck with college!

Since I'm deciding to do the opposite of what everyone says on theft insurance, I've decided to get my 250 a GPS alarm system. Cheaper then the dealerships. Buy the box for $500 (yes, I know,) and then do a year, 3, or I think like 5? It looks really great and was recommended by a user on this forum.

Here is his post on it: http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showp...9&postcount=16
If you're interested, you can PM him about it. He was helpful with me. It's really good. If my bike does get stolen, I could then just track the gps and tell the police.

A block of C4 hidden in your tail section on a remote detonation would be a pretty good deterrent for anyone to try and steal your bike.
