That sounds very fun. I'm lucky to have the Kart/Supermoto track at VIR only about an hour and a quarter away. Also the big tracks there and another big track about the same distance away in the other direction, near Roanoke Rapids, NC. Like you, I'm seriously thinking about some 250 action at one of the bigger tracks. It might also be fun to try it on the Kart track for some tight turn practice.

And you didn't stop by and say Hi?

How was Blue Ridge Parkway road surface? A friend rode it a week ago and said they were chip sealing it and there was tons of loose gravel.

@VaFish yea there was like 30 miles of weird surface, there were loose gravel signs everywhere but it wasn't exactly loose gravel.. it was really weird, like packed-down gravel with some loose sections. just went slow. the rest of it was great. skyline is pristine. I like a little texture to the surface, it livens things up a bit! :P

Karting! Even more fun that motorcycles. I would love to install a Ninja 250 engine in a kart. It wouldn't be hard at all and it would be scary fast. You can't imagine the feeling zipping along at 60 M.P.H. with your tail feathers 3" off the pavement - it feels like 120 M.P.H.

Karts are a hoot - buy cycles are more fun!

I raced karts for years, then changed to cycles. Always felt more in-control on a cycle. Crashing a kart sucks more than a cycle (unless you high-side) as you can easily get a sort of "ejection seat" action, which leads to landing on your head and breaking your collarbone...

A 100cc Yamaha sprint kart will do about 90 mph when geared for a huge track (like RA) - but it feels faster when you are an inch off the ground. Acceleration is SLOW, but once it's rolling and the slicks are hot you don't slow much for the corners.

A 250cc Rotax 2-stroke 6-speed "Superkart" runs about 140 to 160 mph or more on the same track. A Ninja 250 engine would be a bit too big and heavy, and would kill the handling. A typical 125cc "shifter kart" is plenty to handle on most tracks.

EDIT: Sorry, got a bit OT there... Girls in karts rock too, and there were some pretty good female drivers. Danica Patrick was a kart racer (and WI native), and obviously a pretty good one too.

I have an old sprint kart that I put a Honda 125 Elsinore engine in. It's a lot of fun, but I agree with Jay, a motorcycle is more fun overall. I may take the kart up to the track sometime though, and play a little.

Nice photos, Jasmina. Now you just need a bit more protective gear!

I love racing tiny underpowered bikes. They're much more fun to me than the big 180 hp ones.

I did a 150 mile AMA dualsport ride this weekend in New Jersey (the Hammer Run). It was INSANE. Mostly single track, lots of tight technical stuff, some pretty fun sandy hill climbs and lots and lots of woods riding. I loved it but it was also one of the hardest things I've ever done. The last 20 miles of the first day had me re thinking being born. I finished dead last but I finished!!!
