Ancient thread from 2008, where rumors of a Yamaha 250 sportbike were first discussed on this board. If it does finally get released in 2015, it only took them 7 years.

I like the look quite a bit, but it's going to need to perform at least as well as the Ninja 300 if it is going to succeed in the US. If it can't, then it won't be able to compete against the Honda 500's either, almost certainly keeping it from being profitable in this country.

I really like that front end. Has a little too much shock showing in the back for my liking though. I still really like it

Was this particular design in the "ancient thread"?

I think this one's legit.

Also, I don't think it has to compete against the 300. The 300 will be obsolete. <--don't ask me how I know.

One close Yamaha source says single cylinder, another site lists 2 cylinders. I think I see twin down pipes under the radiator. One hand the source says it will beat the 300 in power, but its main competition is the CBR250?

Lets see if it even gets built.

Hopefully they'll confirm it for North American markets. The EU already has the R125 powered by a single cylinder. I bet this will be a parallel twin like just like the article states. Definitely looks for real. And guess who Yamaha got to help pitch the bike...

No, only with a Ohlins rear shock.

I still love my 300. It will be interesting to see how this and the ktm 390 compare to the 300 though.

In the design dept., this blows away the Ninja 300 and CBR 500R. For that reason alone I imagine they'll sell a ton. If this was out when I bought my 250, I definitely would have bought the Yami instead.

Let's wait and see. We're drooling over great pics that have race fairings with no headlights or any other lights, an aftermarket exhaust, and no pricing information.

I will wait for numbers
performance*economy + looks = If I like it

I love my 300 and by the time it is done I will be able to get a electric bike, with a battery that can go 80 mph or better, for 150 miles or better.

Wow! That looks really cool! So many new choices these days for smaller bikes.

This is my new favorite, I think it replaced the KTM 390 (with fairings) in my wish list. And I was just looking at used 250s… may have to wait for more news on these.

Isn't Yamaha making a big deal out of bringing back the 3 cylinder engine configuration? How sick would a 3 cylinder 300cc configuration be? Pipe dream, I know... but if they did it, what a bike!

I'm still waiting for an answer to that question.

Because is has an Ohlins rear shock supposedly, but still non usd forks? And who's to say that it's better looking?,.. that's a matter of opinion I guess.

All the excitement seems a little premature.

Kawa fans have a primal violent loyalty to their brand .... So watch out ... Ninja assassin will destroy the lil Yam before it makes it to the USA.

On the up side , with the healthcare prices going through the roof , no one will be able to afford a full size r1 or r6 so they are going to be driven to the 3/4 bike market.

Obama care saves the low displacement motorcycle market in the U.S.

Yeah buddy.

WHY IS IT BETTER YOU ASK !

The Yama its fairings are made out of unicorn tear resin and carbon fiber !
It runs on H2O . Has 143 hp at the rear wheel ! Comes in 1 2 and 3 cyl configurations ! And there is already an aftermarket under tail exhaust system in development !

"How you like me know". Said Hiroyuki Yanagii. CEO YAMAMOTOR CORPS

ahh what a tease, I didn't read the M1 under rossi's bike and though it was the r25 for a second. was thinking there was no way I wasn't going to buy it for that second.

that said, with all these sick small displacement sportbikes coming out I'm really starting to get torn up on what I want, there's such a good selection coming out now. kawi 300, honda 300, yami 250, ktm rc390 and so on. it helps with the idea of owning a nice small displacement sport bike for commuting and riding while getting a superbike for track use down the road.

wait, Ohlins suspension stock? if that's the case and they get it to be price competititve with the 300s along with putting out reasonable power 28+hp stock it could be a track beast easily competitive with the rest of the 250/300 class.

Good GOD!!!

Are those 120/70/17 front tires?

Is the rear a 160?

Is the air intake duct actually functional or just aesthetic?

Good GOD I want one...but need to know the performance numbers

Power Ones I see mounted. It's like they read my mind and I just posted this setup yesterday in another thread. Once everything is dialed in, I am telling you... it's hard to beat the yami + mich combo.

OK you traitors, I picked up www.r25-forum.org. Let's hope that's what Yamaha still calls it when it's released as a production bike...

R25.org is still available, but they wanted $300 to register it instead of the $20 that a normal domain costs (domain + private registration).
