[motorcycle.com] - 2018 Yamaha X-Max 400 Announced for Europe
Yamaha Motor Europe announced announced a model refresh for its X-Max 400 scooter. American scooter aficionados, however, will likely be disappointed as the 2018 Yamaha X-Max 400 is not expected to come to the U.S. , which is a shame, as Yamaha’s American scooter lineup offers no intermediate model between the 530cc TMax and the 155cc SMax. Meanwhile in Europe, Yamaha has several scooters in this segment including the X-Max 300 released last October. In fact, the X-Max 400 shares much in common with the 300, with the key differences being the larger engine, a longer wheelbase and a longer rear suspension travel. The Euro 4-complaint 395cc DOHC Single is unchanged from the 2016 model, claiming the same peak numbers of 32.9 hp at 7000 rpm and 26.6 lb-ft. at 6000 rpm. Like the 300 model, the X-Max 400 comes standard with a traction control system that reduces power when its sensors detects rear wheel slippage. For 2018, the X-Max 400 gets a new motorcycle-style dual-clamped front fork offering 4.3 inches of travel. Twin rear shocks offer 3.6 inches of travel. Up front, the X-Max 400 runs on a 15-inch wheel with a 120/70 tire while at the rear, it uses a 13-inch wheel wearing a 150/70 rubber (the X-Max 300 differs at the rear, using a 140/70 tire with a 14-inch wheel). The X-Max 400 uses dual front disc brakes with 267mm rotors, and a single 267mm rear disc. ABS is standard. The X-Max 400 also comes standard with a parking brake. At 31.5 inches, the seat height is about half an inch taller than on the 2017 X-Max 400. The underseat storage area is bit larger, with Yamaha claiming it can fit two full-face helmets. The leg shield offers two smaller storage compartments. With a claimed wet weight of 463 pounds, Yamaha claims the 2018 X-Max 400 weighs 11 pounds less than the 2017 model (but about 79 pounds more than the X-Max 300). Other features include twin LED headlights, a LED taillight, an adjustable windscreen, adjustable handlebars and a “Smart Key” keyless ignition system. The 2018 Yamaha X-Max 400 arrives in European showrooms in August with a choice of three colors: Phantom Blue, Sonic Grey or Blazing Grey. 2018 Yamaha X-Max 400 Announced for Europe appeared first on Motorcycle.com.
