My New AKUMA PHANTOM II Helmet!!!

So my wife was nice enough to allow me to purchase a new helmet before the nice weather kicks in. When I purchased the bike, it came with a helmet that I wasn't to fond of and didn't seem to fit me correctly. I weighed in the pro's and con's to my wife (Protect my head or to not protect my head) and she agree'd.

The helmet Looks amazing from a distance, but on closer inspection the clear coat seems like it could use some wet sanding. The weave pattern is nice and even. The Transition shield that comes with it is KICK ASS!!! Oh!!! and the weight of the helmet is amazing...I can't even feel it on. Reviews, on the web, have the helmet weighing 3 lbs. 0-1/8 oz in a XL. I assume that this would weigh slightly less since it's a L. Venting seems pretty good and much better than the Fullmer helmet that it replaces. Noise level is also better than the Fullmer. This was all done at 70mph. Its DOT and ECE certified, but I'm hoping that it protects my noggin just as well as a SNELL helmet.

Helmet:

Transition Shield: It takes about 30 seconds to full tint. And about 1-3 minutes to revert back to clear. The pictures you see are on a cloudy day and 6:00 pm sunset.

Clear:

Tinted:

BTW, Sorry for the larg pictures. I forgot to scale them down on the DSLR.

That is just too cool. I have heard of transition lenses for glasses but did not know they made them for helmet shields also. BTW Great looking helmet.

I know they are making them for all the major brands and should be out by mid to late 2010. The company that makes them is S.H.I.E.L.D. Tech. You can check their website for updates. As far as I know, the phantom helmet is the only one in production. The shields though are not cheap. They also make a transition visor that is 90% clear and turns to mirror.
