I wish Honda had continued its development of this little gem instead, one of the sweetest 250s, and with a bit of v twin low end for beginners. I know the engine is an old design but so is the ninjette's underneath.

I see a lot of folks posting that they see far more CBR250s than Ninja 300, but I have to say that where I live it is the other way around. This might well be that Honda support here (Victoria, BC) is just plain better than Kawasaki, or that the Honda has been out longer.

Still, I have seen perhaps two 300s, whereas I see the CBR250 much more frequently.

It would be interesting to see actual sales figures for the 300 vs the old 250r, or the CBR250.

+1 The cbr250 is not gonna cut it on the freeway. My 250 Ninja is considerably faster than the little Honda single. Honda needs to bring back the CBR250RR. The only way I'm riding that slow single, is if it's the Baby Repsol.

When Honda first announced a new 250 for the U.S. I was thinking (hoping) it was the updated Euro version of the VTR250 that came here for only a couple of years back in the late 80s as a 250cc water-cooled V-twin full-fairing competitor to the Ninja.

No idea why they went with such a strange paint job back then -

Also had an unusual inboard disc on the front that didn't work that well.

Honda changed it up later, and produced a neat little naked version that later became updated with F.I.

Wouldn't be quite as beginner-friendly as the CBR250R, but a lot more capable - and fun!

not sure what the fuss is all about

How can someone prefer the cbr250 against the ninja 300, or even the 250, i test drove all 3, though I was interested in the ninja from the start i went ahead and tried the cbr just to make sure I was making the right decision, and nothing from the experience of riding the cbr left me thinking I maybe should have gotten the cbr instead of the ninja, i could name all the reasons why the ninja felt much better than the cbr but you all already know, overall you just feel better riding the ninja.

Not everyone is you. Riding a motorcycle is a very visceral experience, and what appeals to you might not appeal to another rider (and vice versa).

Those are amazing - CBR250RR - 250cc 4 cyl and 19,000 RPMs.

They never came to the U.S. as far as I know.

I was born in Philippines, and it was very popular there. My family had a business importing/exporting bikes from aboard. With the right documents, you can bring the bike here in the U.S. I remembered a time when those 250's were considered middleweights in the Philippines. I remembered the TZR250 & GSX 250 as well, those were the real 1/4 liter bikes.

+1 I would pass up a 600 over these 1/4 liter bikes. Honda made a lot of Fireblades from 1000cc-250cc right?,400rr is the stuff, I miss those dual headlights. Remember the 89 Fizzer with two round lamps? those were nice.

I'd like to see a ninja 300 go against one of the I4 250's. I'm thinking that the 300 could be just as fast as one. From what I've heard the low RPM power of those bikes were terrible.

the N300 is slightly slower on paper but likely handles better due to advancements in suspension/tires (a good comparison would be on equal tires though) the I4 250s would probably brake better too.

the acceleration is close the 300 would have more midrange for sure but the 250s on paper have slightly more top end where the 300 levels off a bit.

the I4 400s are the equivalent to the modern 650 twins in terms of power which would be good to keep in mind

The CBR250rr were fast bikes then, and even now. You can watch them on youtube destroying 600's at the track. The 300 might have more low-end, however, as soon as the rpm picks up just a bit, the 19k rpm machine will disappear. On paper it should beat the ninja 300. I was fortunate to have experience one on the streets back in the days. I remember that the seating position was nice and aggressive . I wish it was mine, but it was my uncles.

I'm happy with my 250, I just want to reduce the overall weight.

I saw a picture of the CBR 300R on their website, I guess Honda is making a lightweight toy to rival the Ninja 300.

The new 2015 USA colors are up. Judging by the lack of enthusiasm over on the 300 forum, I don't think the new schemes were well received. White with no decals but with green (?!) ninja logo on tank, green with no decals, and a dark black/grey with decals. Japan got a pile of cool liveries. I think in the USA, because the 300 doesn't sell for a whole lot of money, they don't want to give out the good looks. Each year they miss the mark three years in a row. At this point, you have to say it's on purpose for market positioning.

I don't see lots of N300 or CBR250R, I see HD and SS everywhere in California.

I'm only about 5 hrs north of you. There's a street legal Aprilia 250 for sale at the local KTM dealership, and the price keeps coming down.

I can go by and get pics for you if you think you'd be interested.

If you want to talk about anecdotal observations, consider that I now plan to buy one specifically BECAUSE they now offer non-SE green on the ABS model in the US with none of the superfluous stickers and black parts.
