Does it really make any difference if you say it's 249 CC rather than rounding it up?

However, i'm trying to figure out the insurance end of it.

What do you guys have, how much does it cost and who insures you? How much is it suppose to cost? I live in alberta canada, i called my insurance provider for a quote and i'm shocked at the numbers she returned with.

I have to pay $956 for 1,000,000 liability, collision, fire, vandalism and theft for a year.
It will cost me $750 for liability, fire and theft for a year.
It costs $528 liability, fire and theft for a year.
It costs $266 for liability only for a year.

I have a good driving record and she said that just because i'm new to owning a bike doesn't make a difference. I told her it's only a 250r and it won't have as much speed as a 600 or 1000, but she said it didn't matter.

What kind of coverage should i get? What other companies insure bikes for a reasonable price?
one million dollar liability?

Bro... Might be time to sell the bike and take care of the important issues.

And that minimum liability policy ain't gna buy any diapers if you get hurt. Upgrade that **** to 250k w/ uninsured/underinsured. Can't afford it? Don't get a bike

Part it out and get more than your maney back.....) ... saves $10 a month on the insurance and you saved $100 on insurance... just thinking - LOL

That is a good idea but in the winter the 600 won't be much and I wouldn't want a stripped down bike sitting in the garage since space is limited when working on the 600.

Bump of the thread....

Anyone have a bigger bike on their policy too? I was looking at adding an 04 CBR600 and it was double the cost for a lot less coverage of my 250. It was like $450 a year with progressive.

Just bought an 09 Ninja 250 last week and I've been shopping around for insurance.

Policy coverages:

Bodily Injury & Property Damage: $25,000 person/$50,000 accident/$25,000 property damage

Uninsured/ Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury: $25,000 person/$50,000 accident

Medical Payments: No coverage

Transport Trailer: 0

Vehicle coverages for 2009KAWASAKIEX250-J

Comprehensive: $100 deductible

Collision: No coverage

Roadside Assistance: No coverage

Accessory coverage: $3,000 (Included)

23 years old in CA, no tickets/accidents, Good Driver Discount, Safety Course Discount for $212 a year thru Progressive. Is this a good deal? Should I add anything? Any advice would be appreciated.

Multiply your liability and underinsured by 10 and you'll be good

<------- That cost over 100k

Insurance pricing is comical. I just sold my ZX-10R, and went from 3 bikes in the garage, down to 2. My rate used to be $809 per year. It went up to $829 per year with the change. So I was paying -$20 per year for the 10R insurance, evidently.

The agent mentioned that sometimes this happens now that we have two riders in the house and two bikes, when before there were more bikes than riders. But it still seems silly. I'm still quite happy with the policy & the rate, as it's basically the best generally available, at a fair price with reasonable terms. But a small part of me wonders what the downside would have been to just leaving the sold bike on the policy if it was saving me money...

So it would be good financial sense, in terms of insurance, if I got more bikes. Well ok then

I pay around €400 a year (about $515) for my 250. Car costs €1600 (about $2100). 19 male with a clean slate. Upgrading to a 600 would blow that up to nearly $4500 a year...I commute on the bike and might sell the car as the Lady has one. These are only liability - plan to upgrade to Theft + collision which would set me back 700 a year.

Teen Insurance Costs?

I'm 17 with over a year of accident-free (knock on wood) driving and, after taking the MSF course, am now considering purchasing my first motorcycle. Among other expenses, I am trying to figure out the yearly cost of insurance. I am hoping to here from someone who had a Ninja 250 or even a 500 around this age and not just about a friend of a friend. I am also interested to know about any other possible discounts, such as good grades etc.

Thanks!

Best way to find out is call the companies and ask how much

It all depends on where you're from. I can't really speak for the rates around the Bay Area, considering I'm from Ohio. The best advice I can give would be to either call all the companies around you and ask for quotes, or just get on their websites. You can usually plug in all your info there and get a quote on the spot.

Well I know california is more expensive for insurance than a lot of other states.. so you got that working in your favor
But for a little background.. I'm 18, single, in college, have had my license for three years (not a "new driver"), am on my parents policy (multi-policy discount), with no tickets and no accidents, and my insurance is like 856/year.
We have AAA, and I think the only cheaper one I was quoted was Progressive. I have 50/100/100 liability and uninsured with $500 deductibles on comp. and collision, and 5k in medical.

Happy shopping, and ride safe!

I am not sure how most of you are getting these deals but the cheapest plan I've found was from progressive and it was $400 year if paid in full. Doesn't cover anything at all and cheapest package on everything else.

A lot has to do with where you live -- I've had my rates quadruple in the past just from moving to another state, same exact coverages.

2011 SE Ninja 250

Just got my license on 12/24/13, 33 years old, married, no tickets or accidents, with MSF discount.

Progressive

$500,000 CSL Liability
$500,000 Uninsured \ Under Insured
Towing

No Comprehensive or Collision

$539 a year

Thinking of adding Comprehensive just in case. $100 deductible is only an additional $92 a year.
