Hmmm, same kerb-weight as 2012 250R. Was hoping with couple years of R&D, they'd be able to shave off some weight. A little extra power's good though.

Yup. I was hoping that it would rival close to the CBR250rr instead of just cosmetics.

Wait, what's happening here? They've replaced the 300 with a 400 and brought back the 250 pretty much unchanged?

Lol so we're almost back at the original lineup of a Ninja 250 and 500. Bet we'll come the full circle in another year or 2.

It's a bit confusing but from what I've worked out in the last 24hrs the new Euro 4 compliant 250 and 400 replace the 300 which wasn't compliant.
The 250 and 400 are the same bike with different engine internals and colour options/grahics. The 250 variant will be for the Asian countries with the 250cc max restrictions regarding licenses / taxes/ import duties etc and the 400 will be for rest of world.
But don't hold me to ransom on any of that!

Yep - that's how I would have explained it as well. Some of it is assumed rather than guaranteed at this point, but it all seems like the most likely outcome.

You gotta ask the question, why show road america if they are not bringing the 250 here?

"Shave off some weight"? The Ninja gets knocked around like a badminton shuttle in a crosswind now.

I don't care about the "Star Wars" styling I want to know what's changed in the engine room.

I'd prefer it to be lighter. Crosswinds don't scare me!

Well, they scare the doo doo out of me. A 30 M.P.H. gust of crosswind off Lake Huron could take me into opposing traffic. I don't know if I'm on a Sunfish sail boat or a motorcycle. I've ridden without the fairing and it's not an issue.

I'd much rather have the odd scary moment in a cross wind and have a better power to weight ratio.
I striped my old CBR300 back to 150Kg wet and all my riding buddies said it was real quick through the gears up to about 70MPH. And that's only 30.4 HP's!

Looks like they just did some video shop on the videos, its the exact same as the 400, except in the beginning the side panels are different.

It's at the top of my possible list for a new bike in the new year. I'm definitely buying a new bike, the $$ are sitting there waiting!
I'm probably going to have a longer wait than you guys though given my location.
I think we would be lucky to see them by February, probably more into the autumn/fall which is a shame as I miss most of the southern hemisphere riding season.
I will make my final decision once pricing is released. At this stage I'm looking to order a black one with the akrapovic option and maybe the pillion seat cowl but I'm yet to see what this looks like.
Exciting times

I'd wait till Kawasaki gets the bugs worked out on the new 250 and 400 model. It took a couple of years to get the Ninja 300 straight.

Life's too short, I'm prepared to risk it!

Though interestingly second on my list is the 2017 model KTM duke 390 and one of the main reasons I'm keen on that bike is because they have addressed most of the issues I didnt like about the first model: Small fuel capacity ,hard seat, average front brakes etc.

Life's full of contradictions

Before you make the KTM leap check out some parts prices. Be sure to take your heart medication before you do. As far as the Kaw goes, if they haven't made any drastic design changes to the engine I think you are pretty safe.

Cheers,

Bill

Have you ridden one? I have some time on a RC390, and the single is a bit underwhelming for me. The small twins just feel better, even though they might not be quite as quick.

I rode a KTM 390 Duke on the Dragon and thought it was excellent in every way. But then I noticed the 690 was hardly any heavier and may be a better choice. Now I'm leaning toward the Yamaha FZ-07. I'm not in a hurry to buy.

No I haven't, my dealer doesn't have a demo model. So appreciate any opinions.
Maybe in a different thread.

That's for sure. I've dated girls who were the oldest sister and later traded them in on the younger sister. It might be Lude behavior but it worked (at least twice).

You must have been listening to Elvis' song "Little Sister". "Who, what?" says CC.
