07-250 Engine replacement
Hello,
Currently trying to replacement my 07 250’s engine. Found one or two locally in the area. One that ran a year ago but has been sitting for a year. He is asking 225$ for it. Found another engine which has been started every other week since 2016. Wants $500 for the engine, or 700$ on the bike. Is there anything I should be paying attention to when checking these engines out in person?? Last futzed with by Keosan; October 27th, 2017 at 10:13 AM. Reason: More info |

If they're able to be run, like still in the bikes, you can tell a few things by running them. If not, the seller being willing to put it in writing that he'll give you a refund if the engine is not in good running condition would go a long way toward helping me make a decision.
Sitting for a year in a heated and air conditioned house wouldn't bother me at all. Sitting for a year in out a muddy field would. Welcome to the board, Mike. |

Yeah the second engine is still in the bike and he wants to sell the entire bike. So as long as the engine runs and hear no major issues I might just take that route. Only issue is transporting this bike to the project one... Thanks! Glad to be with knowledgable and friendly folk!

Hi and welcome Mike!
That second bike sounds great for $700. If there's no clackity noises from engine and it revs smoothly, should be good to go! You'll end up with a tonne of spares too! |

Hey Jean! Appreciate the welcome! If I purchased solely as a parts bike I wouldn’t have to worry about back registration owed to the DMV correct?

Yes, check VIN with DMV on that (or online). They allow title-only transfer without registration. I did that on my race-bike so that I legally own it, but don't have to pay past or current year's registration.
