Whatcha think about these cans?

Like many others I don’t care for the look of the stock chrome cans. Harley stuff can be found for cheap and in great condition- take offs. I’ve used Harley muffles on a cb400 before with good results but the older sportster style- double tapered ones. No power loss and way better sound only downfall was the weight. These are off a 1200cc and there is a catalytic converter inside each can. It looks like the end caps come off and the baffles can be removed. I don’t know what a cc will do as far a back pressure these may be too much muffler for the little ninja. I am trying to get more info on dimensions.

You’ll need a little extension pipe to mount on pregen. Or if you measure carefully, you can chop off mufflers near inlet and reuse factory pipe. Assuming OD of pipe matches up with ID of those mufflers. Otherwise auto-stores have adapters that can bridge them

Yeah, for 250, you’ll probably be want slower flowing exhaust than 1200. Perhaps add an insert to end-caps. Anyone remember Supertrapp exhausts?

Looks a little plain for my tastes.

I came into this thread with entirely the wrong expectation of what I was going to see.

Sorry to disappoint, but yes pretty much what you suggested Dannoxyz. Cut pipe section off the stock mufflers and clamp on Harley mufflers with adapters if needed. I could add a baffle plate or kitchen sink strainer to slow flow ya know.

I use Harley mufflers on several rebuilds, but not my 250 ninja. One the weight and second the Harley mufflers take a much larger header. Plus on a little ninja they look fugugly

If you look inside a Dyna or a sporty muffler you will see a plug. Get yourself a 1/2” drill bit and drill a hole. You need a 12” bit. Try to find an earlier muffler with no cat inside.

YouTube has lots of videos of guys cutting into Harley pipes. For the little ninja you need back pressure. The Harley’s need back-pressure too, but most of the rednecks don’t understand tuning. I get the impression that they confuse more power with a loud exhaust. My Fatboy is really loud, but has an aftermarket tuner, slip-ons and cams.

I just walked down to the shop. The pregen header is about 1 3/8” od while the id of the dyna/sporty is 1 3/4”

That is a big difference in size for a spacer.

Not too large transition at all. Make cone to adapt. Like this section expanding to 2".
But yeah, better to use 2-1 exhaust and pump it out through just ONE of those mufflers.

They is all well and good. Nice work by the way. Most folks have the means to just slap a couple of mufflers on and forgetaboutit.

I have looked several times of putting on a set of Harley pipes on my 250, but the weight and pipe size stops me cold,

My little 2006 $400 ninja runs so nice I do not want to mess it up. I got it with less then 4000 miles two years ago. Now it is pushing 9000. I am not taking it to Florida this winter. Going to stick it the Fatboy. But that leave room in the trailer for a bike to north in th spring. Maybe another Florida ninja.

I keep saying one of these when things slow down down a bit I am going to buy up every cheap forgotten ninja I can find and flip them.
Great bikes, easy to work on, run like the wind, fun to ride, cheap to ride, you learn to stay on the power curve, stop great and don’t look all that bad after you throw away a bunch of cracked and broken plastic. I am surprised by all the comments I get about “nice bike”. I expect that on the sunglo red, chromed out Harley, but an old ninja! It is black and chrome and I keep to clean.
