I was going to get a Ninja 400 but...

... then this happened.

This year I concluded that my GSX-R750 (which I really do like) is just the wrong bike for the use to which it is put. I decided that I need a more practical street bike.

Since starting to ride on the track, I really notice how much I have to hold back. I never, EVER come close to using the GSX-R's potential. And since I'm at the track several weekends a year, the riding I do for fun has fallen way off. I do recreational rides on the street maybe five or six times a season. All the rest is commuting.

And let me tell you... droning along at 35 mph looking at the ass-end of an Audi SUV is not the proper place for a GSX-R or any other supersport.

I was just going to strip the racy bits off the bike, take it up to my local Kawi dealer and trade it in on a new Ninja 400. Done and done. But then a well-known motorcycle journalist with whom I have a passing acquaintance heard that I was going to unload the Suzuki and suggested a trade.

I couldn't say no. This bike has had the full works done by GMD Computrack. I got to ride it on the track at Palmer last weekend and it's SWEET.

If I could have only one bike, it'd be a supersport because the track is what floats my boat. But I've got a dedicated track bike, so that opens the door to having a proper street bike.

Looks like my return to the ranks will be delayed for a little longer.

2012 Street Triple R, with Penske suspension at both ends plus chassis optimization, a Sargent seat, and pretty much the full catalog of accessories from Twisted Throttle.

I can't say I'm a fan of the bug-eye headlights, but that can be fixed. There are some good-looking single-headlight conversion kits out there that give the bike a very muscular retro vibe. All in the future. Need to get it and ride it awhile first.

Nice. Long time Triumph triple fan myself. Tracked various vintages of Daytonas.

The nice thing about the 2nd gen is that the ECU is still unlocked for you to do whatever you want to do with TuneECU. My 3rd gen '13 was encrypted at the factory. That really bothered me for what was otherwise the best middleweight made.

Check these guys out if you want to ditch the bugeyes - https://motodemic.com/shop/street-tr...onversion-765/ For the Street Triple, but I'm sure they have others.

Be prepared to pony-up.

So it seems the S1000rr is off the table now eh? Either way, nice work! Always nice to change the herd now and then.

Yeah, pretty much, but you never know. It would have been a stupid move, to be honest. This fills a specific need and the transfer of funds involved is fairly small. The only reason money is changing hands at all is that this bike has had the full-bore Computrack treatment.

Ken should be riding "my" bike at Thompson.

Thanks! It's now safe in my garage. Registered it today.

Immediate tasks are to swap race rubber for street tires and put blinkers back on so I can get it on the road. With luck I'll be able to ride it tomorrow.

Then the process of making it "mine" commences. It's got a Scott's steering damper on it, which required lifting the bars by a couple of inches. I really don't need a steering damper on the street so might take that off and get the bars back down a bit. We'll see. Got to ride it first, give it some time and see how I like it.

Ultimately I might do clip-ons because I'm one of those bizarre tortured souls who actually likes sporty ergos. That will require a headlight conversion because apparently there are interference issues with the stock headlight and instrument cluster.
