New Article: Power Commander PCV vs. Bazzaz Z-Fi vs. ECU Flash vs. aRacer Race ECU
Rewriting some articles, and here's the updated article on tuning systems. This was originally based on the Yamaha R3 but the same systems and principles apply to the 400. I'll be starting my Ninja 400 tuning project probably next week and will be thoroughly testing the Bazzaz/PCV, my own ECU flash, the full Woolich system, as well as aRacer Super RC2 race ECU. Hope this answers some questions:

What software are you using to flash ECU?

Interesting, the article says that the ECU keeps changing the mapping according to some parameters, so any custom tune on a piggy bag system will not be the same as soon as you ride out of the shop.

That's fuel-trims causing shift. ECU has pre-programmed maps and target AFR. Using a piggyback to "fool" the ECU by modifying MAP/TPS values tricks it into injecting more or less fuel only temporarily. That's because ECU will analyse O2-sensor feedback to see how mixture is burning. If measured AFR doesn't match what's programmed, ECU will adjust injector duty cycle up or down until it does match.
So it's best to re-program the actual ECU maps themselves. |

It's not just fuel trim. There are timing maps that also change ignition timing based on temperature or other parameters. Super annoying, and terrible for getting a consistent "good tune"
