wow what a difference. i switched over at 1300 miles. compared to the Valvoline 10w40 it just shifts smoother. i can swear it gained just a tad more in the top end. not to mention is running smoother. if your past your break in period switch over now u wont be disappointed

You get the same results if you use Mobil1 4T racing oil (synt)

Just to confirm... I assume you mean Rotella T6 Synthetic??? T6 comes in the blue container. Rotella T is the standard oil but is still a great product!

After break in, I switched to Rotella 15w40 in my KLR650. It significantly improved shifting as well as the bike runs smoother. I plan to do this to our 250r's, I hope this smoothes out the shifting which is VERY clunky.

Aye, when my bike had 2,200-ish miles, i did a oil & filter change with Rotella T 5w-40 (wal-mart) $19.00 1 gallon jug.

I did notice a slighty smoother shifting with the clutch. The shifter foot lever didnt change, it still (even today with 12k+ miles) clunks between gears, and going from 3rd to 2nd to 1st.

Now im not a rotella hater, but i switched over @ 7,500 miles (early spring) and used Amsoil synthetic 10w-40.

I DID however, notice shifting while riding 2UP was SMOOTHER than Rotella.
Solo riding, the shifting smoothness seemed bout the same!

I will be using Amsoil synthetic 10w-40 again this winter and on and on...

Rotella T is ok, but after looking at the "API ratings" on back... "SM rating for gasoline engines".

Where in your owners manual does it list "SM" oil rating?

That and the "Use for Diesel engines", just made me kinda weiry!

To each is own though!

wrong rotella dave, it's the T6 we all rave about.

that being said, if you're happy with the Amsoil, that's really all that matters

When I first started shopping, everyone said "Rotella T" and even showed pictures of the same bottle that Dave showed. When I said that all I could find was T6, everyone said that it was because they renamed it. Rotella T-anything 5W-40 is what counts.

Scorpion: The "Use with diesel engines" thing just means that it is not formulated for cars, which is why it lacks the friction modifiers for energy conservation and, thus, are MORE appropriate for our bikes and their wet clutches.

yes, basic maintenance... DIY. keep receipts and records in case there is any dispute.

for larger items that go wrong... well, that's what you have your 1 yr warranty for.

"better" is a relative term. How much are you willing to pay for that marginal difference? Only your wallet knows for sure.

I would argue for you to find me ever stating that Rotella was the best oil you can use for your bike.

The two numbers I reference give you a good idea of the quality of the Base Stock used and I wouldn't call the difference marginal even with the new T6. Use what makes you happy, in the end its not so much what you use, but that you change it on a regular basis.

I put Rotella T6 in the wifes bike today, following her 3000 mile oil change. I figure with the number of miles she's likely to put on, changing the oil annually was a real possibility. And a full synthetic will better handle sitting for weeks at a time.

I put T6 in my 650R several months back, and it seems to be holding up much better than the traditional stuff.

Here's the Mobile 1 #'s for comparison? Looks to me that the Flash point on the Mobile is NOT better.

Also, could I kindly recommend

an alternative to Mobile 1 and IMHO a better product for those who choose not to use Rotella T6. I however will continue to use the Rotella until I go thru the 2.5 gallons I have in stock. After that I will be switching over to Amsoil.

Mobil1 at some point has changed the formula for both of their MC oils, the info I posted is easily 3 years old, sorry for that. And me using Amsoil is never going to happen!

I ride with the "Amsoil Poster Child" and if I switched....I would never here the end of it.
