How Much Would You Pay?
Hey there, there's a 2008 Ninja 2008 with some cracks on the fairing, and some heavy cracks (holes) on both sides of the front of the fairing. I checked it out and the bike had some black oil, I believe it is probably dirty since the oil meter wasn't within the recommended range. The mileage on it is 9k miles. Other than that, I believe everything else is fine. I know I overpaid, but I just want to know the experienced opinions of this forum.
Thanks! |

Fairings can be replaced, is it mechanically sound? Any other damage? Sounds maybe around 2500-2700 but you didn't really provide much info.
Welcome to the forum, btw.

Usually when there are cracks, there could be underlying problems that you won't notice. I wouldn't buy it at all but I'm sure someone that is more mechanically inclined would be willing to buy it for 1k. The fairing damage alone is at least 1k to replace if it were done by a shop.

Yeah it seems like it is vibrating a bit at high speeds. Not a lot, but I'm not sure if it's normal (I'm a bike newbie). The carbs were "shakey" so they might need to be cleaned. As far as I know (I don't know much) it seems mechanically sound. It was idling at 3k with the oil it had and I changed the oil and it was idling at a nice 1.4k (changed and put into the proper range). @Other people the fairing damage would be expensive to replace, but does it really matter? I will be using this in the highway. Edit: I didn't even say how much I bought it for, haha. |

He never got it transferred... I didn't want to take the risk. The back of the title was signed already and ready to go (the handwriting DID seem different). With the bond I got, I don't have to worry about any ownership issues.

The only reason to buy a motorcycle is to pick up chics. They aren't going to like your smashed up 250 so slap some 600 stickers on it and tell them 2 of the cylinders stopped working and that's why it's so slow.

Let me guess...the steering lock is broken too?
I kid, I kid. It does seem a little weird but hey, what do I know? Either way, I wouldn't worry about the fairings too much, assuming they're not falling off the bike or anything. Especially as a beginner, you don't really want to spend a fortune to repair them and then drop it a week or two later. Just think of this bike as your learning tool. Although you may find, like a lot of members here have found, that you absolutely love it and would prefer to hold onto it. They're addictive like that. |

Legally, it is mine now and the title is in my name and I even asked blunt questions when I was getting the title transferred and was told it was 100% mine. Show you guys my jacked up Ninja? I'll think about it haha. |

Okay, okay haha sheeesh. Oh yeah, it's missing the left front turn signal =[. I'm about to go buy one, though. I didn't care because I know I can get a good price on a turn signal.
I'm eating and charging my phone... so I'll send pics of the bike later. |

What kind of phone are you eating?
I bought my bike with a busted up left fairing, never replaced it because I didn't want to have to replace it again if I dropped it. Depending how jacked up it is, you can always do something to mend it and disguise the damage. I glued the cracks in mine and plasti-dipped over the rash. |

Yeah, I'll figure something out. I feel like I'm losing a tiny bit of performance with these cracks, and that bothers me! I realized there was more damage than I thought to the fairings, but I don't care. I'm about to upload the pics and bla bla bla right now. |

I paid what I'd call $2,125 (Listed: $2,300, talked down to $2,100, found out about the title and told him it'd cost me $125 to get it done and we agreed to the price of $2,000 for the bike officially, but $125 for the bond) I feel fine now, after taking the pics and talking it out with you guys haha. Buyer's remorse and all that. |

As long as it's mechanically fine, you can make it look nice with some new fairings from ebay for a couple hundred.

So far, it's great. I took it out in the very light rain to see the traction and to practice using it in the rain. I ran into no problems! I couldn't find the right oil filter (relying only on http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Oil_Filters) at Wal-Mart so I left with only the enjoyment of a nice, wet ride. I guess I should have searched other sites, or gone to an actual auto parts store. Lovin' my little damaged baby. 85 miles on it in two days. |

Yea . Temporarily use green duck tape !
Ride the piss out of it then buy a **** to of new parts and **** once you get the new rider risks out of the way. Rashing new fairings would be a huge bummer. 2k$ isn't bad for a basically road ready lil ninja. I am mega cheap though so I only buy **** that is totally thrashed and I put it back together |

@Trail
Yeah, I was looking at the Chinese ones... there are even ones that you can get custom made and all that (well it wasn't injection molded, the one I saw =/ I'm cheap so I'll do that after a while, if I care. @alex.s, Klond Haha yes! Green duct tape... why not? I gotta be sure to get the dirt off the bike. I read about your only buying old bikes in another post... that's not bad lol I was considering getting an old bike but then I was like no way haha. I'm too noob. I need a good jacket now >.< |

Now doing the valves can help a lot and you may want to make sure they are in spec.

I don't know what can go wrong on the highway (bad turns, I should be able to handle most of them)... except people merging onto my lane. I've had that happen 2-3 times... and one time was during the first day I got this 2008 Ninja! I'm going to try to stay where there aren't a lot of cars behind me, so that if I do crash, people can be kind and not squish me . |

Ugh, tricky... I'm in Austin, TX and I know a few people who ride bikes, but probably only one who might be able to do this. I knew there'd be some downfalls to getting the 2008 model. I felt like it'd be a better buy, plus the fairing kit looks much nicer than the older ones (the headlights always turned me away from the Ninjas).
