Winter Withdrawal

All right, so I am going through winter withdrawel and have been taking care of that by doing some work to my baby, Last night I swapped out the front and rear sprockets along with the chain.

The next step I was looking at was a pod filter (KN R-0990)
and the appropriate new jets. From what I understand the stock jets are 106(keihin)

With a the pod filter and a slip on (Musarri) do you think I would need more then the 108 with some washer under the needle? (all riding is done near sea level) I know this will be a multi try process to get it right I just want to make sure I can order what I need without spending to much extra. The fun of college life lol

Would there be any need to change the pilot jet? I have not read anywhere about needing to but I may have missed it.

I have actually been spending quite a bit of time over there and feel pretty comfortable with my choice I was just trying so See if there was anything else that others have done that might make this smoother lol

(Yes the stock jets are 105 that was a typo earlier)

I was running stock pipes, pod filters and the FactoryPro jets I believe 110 mains and whatever pilots they come with (one size) at just about sea level. I had to buy the washers to get the exact tune I wanted though. After I put on my Muzzy full exhaust the tune didn't need any mods.

You will definitely have to pull the carbs a few times during this process mind you but 108 isn't a bad start.

It would be wise to do your valve adjustment now because after you get the tune dialed changing the clearances will likely effect your tune.

@agentbad Sweet! thanks! that is a thread I hadnt found yet.

@FvnnyL3tt3r1ng I Just finished the valves laaaaate friday night
I was actually pleasantly surprised how easy it was even if time consuming. They were super tight as well I couldnt get an .002 in feeler in there.
The pod filter should be here in another day or two along with the jets so updates will be soon

All right so I finished the other four valves that just happen to be in the engine this afternoon and was just getting ready to pull the air box out when I noticed a tube coming from the bottom of it and going into the transmission case.
Is this just a vent to get fluids out of the air box? or is this a bit more important?

So I was in the process of removing the air box when I realized I have this Fuel Evaporative system on my bike, apparently it was a california bike because it has the three openings on the back of the tank as well. Have any of you cali guys switched to pod filters and if so what did you do with all of that extra crap? Lol

And I thought I would have this done tonight lol

Put some spit around the lip to make it slide, still gonna be tight but keep at it, you will get it in, and be extremely satisfied after you are done.

That helped a ton @crazymadbastard, I still couldnt get both sides to get on however, after spending the last few days fighting with it i took an exacto knife a made ever so slight of a bevel along the inside edge. It didnt drop right in, but I did manage to get it to fit with much less verbal lubrication.
Who knew this would be more frustrating then the valve adjustment lol

All right, so I have finally had a (relatively) warm day here and a good chance to test the changes I made. I was a bit apprehensive pulling out of the drive way but it turns out it was all for naught. She ran amazingly! I put the 110 jets with four washers to start with as that seemed to be the most common setup with what I am running, and she pulled hard to redline and idled beautifully. Even started right up with no problems! Oh how I missed that! I cant wait for the rest of this week now!
