High revs at stand still?

My 2010 idles at around 1500 when I start her up, but after i ride around or a bit and get to a red light the rpm stays at around 3000, is this normal?

If I stop for a minute it usually drops back down to 1500. Does this happen just because I'm riding it?

Sounds like your idle is adjusted too high.

When you start the bike, you should set the choke and let it warm up a bit. I have my check set at 3k. Once it's warmed up enough, turn the choke off and ride. Your idle should be at about 1500 rpm once the engine is fully warmed The black idle control knob is located in the hole of the left fairing at shin/knee height.

My bike idles at 1500 when its warmed up, the high idle only happens when I'm riding around and get to a stop light. Does this happen to anyone else?

It's at least 100 when I was riding so do you think it was overheating? and it wasn't something with the reading because I could hear the engine actually in the higher rpm.

(since you're in arizona i am asuming you have a standard carbed version of the ninjette 250)
it sounds like your idle is set a bit too high, but so long as it doesnt go into the red zone it should be fine, just be sure to keep an eye on tach and coolent temp sensor light. to adjust the idle, look at the left hand side of your bike with the black trim piece removed, and you should see a knob, twist it counter clock wise to youre liking.(i dont believe you need to take off the fairing but if you dont see it you might have to)

One minute from 3000 to 1500 at idle may also indicate a vacuum leak.
You could test it spraying carb cleaner or WD-40 around the cylinder-carbs boots and vacuum hoses.
If a leak is present, the rpms' will suddenly drop when you spray over it.

Lubing the throttle handle and cables is always a good idea.

pilot system is running lean.

its either a very slight vacuum leak, or your pilot screw is not adjusted correctly. we had an idle screw back itsself all the way in behind the screw cover all by itself on a new gen, so its not out of the realm of possibility. could also just be very slightly gummed up carbs

I just broke 1k miles on the bike though, should i still test for a vacuum leak if i figured it was a sticky throttle?

There's a knob under the left fairing by the kickstand. It adjusts the rpm while your bike is idle...

After buying it I ride it everyday, but before I bought it it was ran at least once or twice a weak but not driven. Do I need to take of fairings to test for vacuum leak?

I'm in the Maricopa County over here in Arizona aswell and my bike's temp guage stays around 1/4 the whole ride. That's on a pregen though.

What part of Arizona are you in?
