Rear Brake Caliper Help
After putting in new brake pads I noticed the caliper didn't fit over the rotor properly. I realized there wasn't enough clearance between the new pads and a bump on the mounting bracket (circled in picture). So after reading some forums I heard my '09 ninja 250 has a floating caliper system and the shafts that I drew an arrow over are supposed to move freely. Mine are stuck so I'm guessing it's rust/dried up. Can anyone help explain how I would disassemble the caliper shafts so I can re-lube it?
I also found this schematic diagram but part 43045 isn't moving like I think it should. |

Not sure but they look similar to the ones on my old Honda those pins slide in the caliper
through the rubber grommets remove the pins and rubber grommets clean them well check for damage I used a tiny amount of copper slip grease BUT CHECK KAWASAKI Manual if it is ok to use on here

Ok, I think I understand what I have to do. There's a nut on the left shaft that should screw out. Once that's detached, I should be able to twist the bracket as a whole off. Can somebody verify if this is right?
Also think I need a 12mm for that left nut. Tried using the roommate's adjustable and it stripped the nut... |

I think I remember.
I think you might have posted on a previous thread I had started some time ago (pictures look familiar). I have since sold my 250 but I vaguely remember getting through this.
If memory serves me correct, the best way to dislodge this is to unscrew 43045 in your diagram. After that is detached from item "A". You're going to twist item "A" back and forth while pulling it out of the hole. Mine was a real pain to get out and required a lot of patience. You may not believe that it will come out but it will. After you get it out take the time and clean the grommets without damaging them. Also clean the guides and holes that you just separated. There is a special brake caliper lube I remember putting on afterwards. I'll look in the garage tomorrow to see if I still have it. If so I'll be able to give you a specific brand / name. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to stretch my memory. - Fred. |

Hi fbalsam - thanks for the reply. I did post on an old thread of yours, and thanks for the clarification on what to do. I just came back from the auto store and found some caliper lubricant.
*Update* With the right sized wrench I was able to get the nut (part 43045) off. Just gotta twist the bracket off and everything else seems self explanatory from here. Thanks guys! Last futzed with by blap6798; April 3rd, 2012 at 09:06 AM. |
