I wouldn't say that, just no comments yet...

Welcome. Surf around a bit, there's a lot of good info here. Keep us up to date on your modes.

Could be tricky getting it jetted perfectly, but it would be interesting to hear how it responds to non-CV carburation.

CV carbs generally allow a rider to slam the throttle open without getting hesitation, so I'd expect when the simpler carbs are jetted properly it'll run fine, but will take a little finesse when going for big throttle changes. Admittedly this is just some educated guessing.

I'm especially interested in a couple of aspects.....how OP plans to operate the inner choke lever on/off AND tank clearance issues once carb slide caps and cables are installed.

The tank clears, as well as the cables.. tested it while fitting. the carbs stick back into where the airbox was which is now gone (I will use pod filters) and the engine only needs one choke which can be reached from the now airbox-less area. I will send pics when done

Got them to idle again by putting a seal under the jets

Stupid chinese carbs leak behind the jets around the emulsion tube. Flawed design in the copy. So I fixed it with a couple O rings. Here it is with the jets that came with them, waiting on the kit in the mail to try other sizes. I'm sure air filters will help. I will try the smaller flat sides too. Notice I took the tubes off, I will put those back (I thought it might be resonating the gas out the front, but it was the leak)

Good Ol Mikuni Saves the Day

So, after realizing the china carbs were leaking through the body I remembered I had an old pumper carb from my 83 Yamaha XT250 parts bike. I welded up a 2 to one intake and put it on. It runs great! A little tuning and it should run out good. Funny how a Japan carb that sat 20 or more years is better than brand new ones (copies of course) Sorry about the bad welds, its a cheap welder and two different kinds of steel. But it sealed, and worked. Will patch it up tomorrow and report how it runs while driving. Get a video too. Later!

Bike has other problems

The bike ran great when I went to bed and when I woke up it was lagging and backfiring. I think I have CDI or timing chain issues. Bike is put up until I am done with some other projects. Sorry guys.

For information's sake, Ninja 250s don't have CDI.

Bullshit.

Ignitor box, CDI, whatever you wanna call it, it does the same thing.

https://www.amazon.com/derestrict-ig...=isthisnice-20

https://www.ebay.com/b/Motorcycle-CD...33/bn_19420491

It works the exact same way as any CDI or "ecu" from any other carbed bike I have ever had.

You'll notice I'm not the only one to call it a cdi on Ebay either.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/33393307236...4AAOSwLC9gW7M0

Any more wisdom you'd like to impart on the owner of 1000's of vehicles over the last 25 years? Wanna argue about "handlebar" vs "handlebars?" Fack off. I won't be back to check.

And fack this lame ass forum while I'm at it. Dead as fack.

I've been manufacturing CDI units for about 13 years, and I think that when trying to diagnose a problem or test an ignition unit, it's important to know what type it is.

A CDI system doesn't have 12v applied to the coil, but rather discharges a capacitor that's been charged to several hundred volts into the coil primary in an extremely short time when it's time to fire. You can't just connect a voltmeter to the coil to test anything with this type, for example.

The transistor switched ignition system that our Ninja 250s use does have 12v applied to the coil, and the ignition unit grounds or ungrounds the negative side as needed. Checking that 12v is applied to the coil is a good test with this type of system, to see if the wiring and switches are working correctly, and other tests can be performed with simple procedures.

Since you mentioned that you suspected an ignition problem, I thought it might help to let you know that you're not dealing with a CDI system here. But from your reaction, maybe you would be better off somewhere else.
