Looking at used ninjettes on CL
Hello everyone,
I found a 2007 with 4k miles in the seattle area. They are asking $2000. It appears to be in excellent shape. Is this a fair asking price? They don't really want to negotiate the price, either. Thanks for the input. |

It might be different in your area, but people post some of their new gens for around $2500 here and that's with 1k-3k miles on them. I won't buy anything much over $3000 though, and that's only if it has lots of $$$ in mods on it and low mileage. I won't pay any extra for mods I don't like though.

There appears to be a couple 07 Ninjas listed on CL in Seattle around that price. Red one for $1899 and a blue one for $1800.
I would recommend taking the time to look at each of the bikes, sit on them, listen to them, ride them (if the owner allows), and give them a good look over for scratches and abuse. After looking at more than one or two, you will get a better understanding on the condition of this age of bike and what to expect for the price. As for price, I am glad I bought my 07 last year, as prices seem a little higher this year. I would try to negotiate a price closer to $1500 or $1600 on a bike in very good condition.

Got them down to $1800, gonna go check it out tomorrow. People are asking the same price for a lot crappier looking bikes with higher milage around here. If it's as nice as they say it is, I am gonna pick it up. Pretty excited about getting my first ninja 250

It is clear from reading the threads on here that prices vary significantly regionally. Around here, that price is way too high. We bought my wife's 2009 with ~900 miles for that price, and it was in showroom condition. Around here, that bike is worth $1500 tops.

The lowest priced 2nd gen I've seen in Phx was $2800.
Most 07's are in the $2100-$2800 w/clear title so $1800 is not bad. Like others have mentioned, it depends on your area. I got mine brand new 2 wks ago for $4250 otd |

I got my 08 for $2400 and it only had 3000 miles on it... it came with helmet, gloves and jacket.

To avoid future confusion, it's the current or "new" gen... not "2nd gen." The 1986/'87 250 was pretty different from the '88-'07 model, so the J-series is at least 3rd gen.

Not on this site. There is no confusion when people refer to current-gen / new-gen / 2nd-gen interchangeably. The only people who would know that there really was a slightly different version for 86/87 aren't going to be confused anyway.

After seeing all of the regional variations on price I feel pretty lucky to have picked up 09 with 700 miles for $2500. Not that I didn't pay my dues waiting, researching and trolling Craigslist. The new-Gen look was what made my decision easy. Even though there were 500s out there for the same price.

Unless you're totally inexperienced, the 500 was the way to go. All the 250 has plus free upgrades you'd want from the ninjette. Don't get me wrong, I ride my 500 first then take my breadth away on my ninjette set-up, but for the money you shouldv'e reeled in the 500 while you had a shot, they're not common and at low prices. As long as your happy is all that counts dude, que sera sera.

Actually, I think avoiding confusion is particularly WHY everyone calls the previous generation "last gen" or "pregen" instead of "second gen" when we would call any other second generation product "second gen" in a heatbeat.

I think if the generations were more equal in terms of units or years, it wouldn't even be a discussion. But when the 1st version wasn't sold in the US, the 2nd version was only sold for 2 years to a couple of folks, then the first volume version goes for 20 years with no real changes, that gets us where we are today.
