Attention NJ/Philly Ninjetters - Motoamerica?

The last race of the Motoamerica series is going to be at NJMP in Millville in a few weeks... Sept 11-13, I think. If I'm reading the standings right, the championship is still up for grabs.

Seriously considering going. Anyone want to join me? Aside from watching the race, there are some other activities such as a parade lap of the course (you need to pay for it and it'll be slow, but if you've never been on a track it could be fun).

I'll be there, got my tickets already!

I'm also racing on the 10th (but I have obligations on the 11th so I'll only be around for the 10th/12th/13th)

Thinking about it. It'd just be for one day, likely Sunday.

I'm looking at either going to the awesome Palmer Motorsports track on Labor Day or doing this. Tradeoffs... I was at the track just two weeks ago, plus there's the cost. On the other hand, it's more fun than watching other people ride.

Decisions, decisions.....

Want to link up? It'd be an oh-dark-thirty kind of thing since events start early.

I was toying with the idea of doing the lap ride. It's ten bucks and just a parade, but what the heck. It'd give me a chance to scope out NJMP since I've never been there.

$10 for a parade lap of njmp isn't bad. It's a fun track, palmer is more fun to ride but NJMP is a track you can legitimately race on which is nice. I won't do a parade lap simply because there's no way I can go on that track and not want to ride at pace which would be riding like a complete when everyone else is doing a parade lap

Yeah, I hear that. Thing is, NJMP is far enough away, and I've got such cool tracks close to me, that I may never actually do a track day there. So half a sawbuck to just scope it out seems a good thing to do even if I am going so slow I risk falling asleep.

Next year I'm likely to be splitting my time between Palmer, Thompson and Loudon -- looks like those are the tracks TTD is going to be visiting.

Sounds good, if you get a chance to ride a track day at NJMP at some point do it, it's a great track. Not my favorite but I've enjoyed every day I've spent there

That would make a real difference. Ant's out and I really like hanging with friends. Red or yellow?

You're fast enough for yellow. Just sayin'.

FYI prices go up a bit on Monday.

Jay (bigballsofpaint) is looking at doing his last track day later in the month and since I like to ride with friends, I'll be doing that too.

That opens up the race weekend. Call it 85-90% probability, and I'd be going for Sunday.

I'm coming from Connecticut and it doesn't make sense for me to ride through the city. I'd be taking the Tappan Zee, heading over to the Garden State to avoid the crazyness and heading south.

If NYC folks want to meet up, we could do it either at the first rest area on the NJTP south of the intersection with the Garden State. Or the first rest area south of the intersection on the Garden State if folks would rather go that way.

Would like to get to the track early-ish to make it worthwhile, which means a very early departure.

I think so (will probably be taking that day off). There isn't any racing on that day though.

9/4-6 should be a good show due to the ccs races but I can't make it

9/10 with tpm is cancelled

9/11 is open practice for the motoamerica racers
9/12-13 is the real show (the days I'll be there)

Some of the R/Phillyriders (reddit) is trying to get a group to ride down. I'll probably head over with a few friends as well. Up in the air, as the Mushroom Festival is that weekend too.

That's either totally awesome or a lame-a$$ excuse for an alternative to watching Josh Hayes and Cameron Baubier battle it out for the title.

Depends on what kind of mushrooms are involved.

Kennett mushroom festival! My partner will be moving out to Seattle come late fall. It will be his last one for us to experience together. But ....I think I am definitely coming down for Sunday. I mean, I just looked at the standings..and someone is giving Hayes a run for his money..

Wet races can be very exciting. If the forecast is nasty I'll drive. If that happens, willing to carpool from a convenient location. I'll have the tix with me in any event. I'll check back in late tonight to see if there are any takers.

The races today were gnarly, there was some seriously badass wet racing that was done. Tomorrow is looking to be much much dryer though so the pace should pick up considerably. @lux weather is looking pretty decent for tomorrow and rain races are very exciting so it's worth coming even if it does start raining

It was a great time, glad andy managed to make it out there as we had some good conversation during the main races on sunday.

saturday I mostly hopped around watching in the rain, the supersport and superstock 600 races were a complete mess. I lost count of the highsides and highside saves I saw out of T5. the superstock 600 guys had the worst conditions as the track dried mid-race causing their tires to get destroyed and be even slipperier at the end of the race than when it was raining. The ktm race 1 was good but my guy (brandon paasch) didn't get the finish he was looking for and was getting beat up on the straights, which is something I'm not used to seeing.

Day 2, sunday, rolls around and I wake up to a fairly boring scene as no one is there yet except for the racers and the teams. I head over to the ycrs garage where everyone is watching the moto3-moto2 races with some good banter going along with it as everyone was trying to pull as much information from what they were watching as possible to better themselves as riders.

head over to the paasch pit and everyone's chilling debating about the gearing choice or if he's just not as good on the brakes. We decided that trying to have him change something in his riding was not the best idea so we sent him out to the race practice on new gearing in the hopes that he won't top out the bike at the end of the straights anymore. It works though his times seemed to have suffered and he wasn't able to pass as aggressively in the back sections. It's decided to stick with the gearing for the race.

I head back over to the ycrs garage where the motogp race has started and jump back into the banter. It was a ridiculous race, and somewhere around a third of the way through the race keith code shows up and gives his own feelings about the techniques and approaches that the riders were using in the wet. I never knew just how many variables people see at the top level, I do so many things in a "set it and forget it" manner that I don't even begin to see the minute differences that really win the motogp races. I learned so much right then and there that I will take with me everywhere I go, it changed how I look at races completely from a spectator's point of view and it enables me to learn much more than I previously had from other racers. Keith was the most surprised out of all of us when a certain someone crashed out but the variables changing mid-race could definitely lead to something like that.

Around the time the motogp race closed up the ktm rc390 cup final round was heading out. I watched from the tower to keep an eye on brandon as he was fighting for 4th the whole race with the second pack. He was still getting beat up at the end of the straight but not nearly as much as the previous race. The race ended on red flag as jody barry crashed out of 3rd and brought out the red flag. This brought brandon up to his 3rd place finish, very respectable but not what he wanted out of the weekend.

From there the rest of my day was spent talking with andy while watching the superstock 600, supersport, and superbike races

it blows my mind that the fastest lap from the supersport race was only a tenth off of the fastest lap of the superbike race. I guess the track really is a 600 track

Some behind-the-scenes video, courtesy of MotoAmerica.

Those of you who bailed on this -- if you've never been to a race, you really should go, and . It's like going to a baseball game. Yeah, you get a much better view on TV, but there is NOTHING like actually being there.

Race sounds like fun.

I'd rather be having my teeth cleaned than be at a professional baseball game, however.

that's what the insanely overpriced beer is for!
but seriously, baseball is my #2 sport behind racing and I still feel you on the it can get boring as **** really fast if you aren't watching with the right people bit
