[motorcyclistonline] - Honda Announces Pricing on 2016 CRF1000L Africa Twin

Honda seems content to drizzle out details on the upcoming 2016 CRF1000L Africa Twin like pancake syrup on a cold morning. We already know the basic specs for Big Red's big trailie, and now we know the price: $12,999 for the base version and $13,699 for the Dual Clutch Transmission model. Pretty soon, you know, it'll be time to eat.

As we noted before, Honda has told us that the Africa Twin will come in two basic configurations, one with its automated-manual DCT, but both with traction control, called Honda Selectable Torque Control, and ABS as standard equipment. Both transmissions are six-speeds but in addition to the automatic shifting of the DCT, Honda has included algorithms that fine-tune shift action for varying terrain, such as hill climbs and descents.

“The CRF1000L Africa Twin is one of the most exciting new products of the 2016 model year, and we’re pleased to provide customers with additional information, including details on our competitive pricing,” says Lee Edmunds, Manager of Motorcycle Marketing Communications at American Honda. “No fewer than 32 patents have been applied for on this innovative model, and its specifications surpass the competition in several important areas. We know our customers have been hungry for a no-compromise, do-it-all adventure bike, and we’re confident that the Africa Twin fits the bill.”

Honda says the 998cc parallel-twin-powered Africa Twin will be available Spring 2016, and we know that a worldwide press launch is scheduled for October. While the CRF will try to compete with category stalwarts like the BMW R1200GS and the KTM 1190 Adventure, it's priced closer to the Suzuki V-Strom 1000 ($12,699 base; $13,999 Adventure), which is a much more on-road-oriented ADV sled.
