Weird play in the shifter peg?
I just picked up a 250 for my wife, and the play in the shifter is unusually high. Is it just like this on all Ninjettes? Also, anyone know the thread size of the bolt that bolts the rear brakes to the bike? The PO lost the one to this one when he was replacing the pads.

How much play are you seeing? You might want to make sure that the teeth on the shifter are not worn or stripped and that the bolt for the clamp is torqued down properly. Also, the ball joint might be worn if there is no freeplay in the shifter shaft. Shifter rod nuts secure?

Check all the joints in the shift linkage by pinching them between your fingers and wiggling with the other hand. You will quickly get an idea what you are feeling.
Also, the shift shaft passes through the sprocket cover. There is a bushing in the cover that supports the shift shaft. Check to make sure it hasnt walked out or gone missing. |
