Awesome! Those boots should do you well. I was considering a boot that is more "track worthy", but then I was like... I commute a bajillion times more than going to the track lol :P

Yeah, but the SMX-5's were designed for wearing them on the street/long hours, but with track like protection.

If Knox made a short glove I would buy a pair.

is it necessary to have such a good/expensive pair of gloves? burn me if you would like, but i just use a pair of mechanix gloves with padding on the palms and they are just fine.

no, i feel you...but yea, i took that into account, but i figured if i do crash (hopefully i never will) the padding in the palms will suffice, seeing as i dont think im going to do a majority of skidding on my hands.

What makes you think that?
In most falls, you WILL land on your hands first

I hope your skin is worth more than $100 to you... I am not even talking about the pain and how long it takes for road rash to heal (a very very very very long time)....

looks like hell. now, i know im inexperienced and have never been in a crash, but after the initial impact on the road, wouldnt you just curl into a ball and let your jacket/helmet/pants take skid? again, im inexperienced, but this makes sense to me...

You might curl into a ball, you might be tumbling down the ditch, you might pass out upon impact and slide 60 feet like a ragdoll, you might do a backflip like a ninja and land on your feet...

Ideally if you can keep a cool head, in a crash you should do the following:

In a lowside, you want to spread over the road as much as possible to increase your traction to slow down as fast as your can to increase distance between you and the sliding motorcycle in front of you.

In a high side, you wanna try to do the opposite. You want to decrease traction as much as you can, tuck and roll, to get away from the bike that is sliding/flipping behind you.

In any case, I hope you and I never find out what it is like to crash at speed. Gear or no gear, you bet its gonna hurt.

be safe.

Hit edit on your post and you'll see how I did it. Just put the video ID (and only the video ID) between youtube tags.

Look at how complex your hands are, 27 bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, skin & how often do you use them?

You automatically put your hands out when you're falling.

In a crash / highside with cheap un-armoured gloves the gloves will be ripped apart on contact, and your hands will take most of the initial damage.
Then your body moves over the hand, hyperflexes (bends back) your wrist breaking a few bones & tearing up tendons & ligaments

Do enough damage & they won't heal right

Wut he said ^

But yea, I when I first started I was wearing cheapish gloves, and when riding I simply could not comprehend crashing with them. My hands probably would have been utterly destroyed. Picked up some more protected ones and felt slightly better. Now I got SP-1's (actually, they were supposed to be here friday ), and I am sure I will feel much safer.

A* SMX-2 air carbon gloves are probably the best selling summer glove, and can be had for less than $70.

Take a look at the pics i posted on my crash thread from yesterday. You really need to have more than just flimsy foam on the palms of your hand. When I had my nasty low side I wore almost totally through the palm sliders on my SP-2 A* gloves. I just bought some SP-1's for even more protection

Although I bought the SP-1's before you crashed, your pics of the SP-2's further reinforced my desire to have more protection!

SP-1's FTW! Still haven't received mine, but I should get them monday or tuesday!

@MikeBudd Nope, I held off because I'm a little low on cash, but after my incident I put gloves as priority number one. Number 2 is repairing my leather jacket.

LOL!

anyways, I got the SP-1's. I really like them!

I did a video unboxing/review so I'll post that up, then I'll post up a ride report later tonight (to lazy to quickly edit the video).

Cheers guys.

COOL!! I'm gonna do a review here in the next few days of my SMX-5 boots, since they've now been crash tested.

I'm assuming they worked out well

I'm hoping I don't crash in my SMX-2. They don't have nearly as much protection, but then again, not meant for the track
