Clip ons

I went with these no name clip ons. They didn’t fit under the triple tree so I put them on top, which drops the front some. Nothing is touching and I can move the bars back and forth all the way. No clearance issues. Don’t know when I will be able to test ride the bike. I will be taking the forks off to have Race Tech .90 springs, heavier weight fork oil and pre load adjusters installed this month.

Which clip ons are you fast guys using?

I originally used Woodcraft, but they are 2-piece and came with 2" risers that made them higher and heavier than necessary.
So next, I got generic Ali 37mm 1-piece clip-ons: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32808880316.html

Used this for bars: https://www.ebay.com/itm/192996657715.
Chop into three 10" sections and toss extra into toolbox (I prefer my bars as short as possible for quick response).
Ended up saving about 1.5-lbs over Woodcrafts and about 3.5-lbs over stock bars.

Why don't your bars fit under triple-clamp? Looks like they should fit just fine.
You have to cut fairings in order to fit bars under triple-clamp. Like this:

Or cut little more like this for more lowering of bars. Also cut off fairing-brackets from tank, looks dangerous in crash.

The clip ons were too low under the triple tree. They rubbed badly on the stock plastics. I couldn’t turn the bars.

Yeah, gotta chop tops of fairings off to lower bars. I prefer mine right about seat-height.

Did you lower your front any? I will measure mines once I take the forks off. I marked it where the stock height was.

I see you have my friends tire warmers, Scott from Moto D!

Generic fit clip-on bars ( by fork tube diameter) won't have clearance UNDER the triple clamp. (With or without risers. ) They won't fit. Unless you don't mind cutting the bikes plastic.

Woodrcaft, and Driven make a set for our ninjas. Not just by the fork tube diameter, but machined so that there is no interferance from the risers, hitting the bottom of the triple clamp. But it is still a very tight clearance fit ( full lock to lock, and finger placement. But they will work, if mounted under the triple clamp.

I tried taking photos of the mess, but due to angles, and such, hard to give a thorough idea. I'll try to make a reasonable scematic/ drawing of the issues "generic" fit clipons give, no matter which way they are turned or rotated.

Hope this help........ ?

I will clean it up, and give a better diagram later. (Missing the lines, of where the bodywork would be in relation to the handle bars...and it's just a quick n dirty schematic..

I agree 100%, the generic ones will only work on top of the triple not below. The generic ones I have are probably slightly lower than stock but definitely much lighter in weight. The left stock bar on my 250 was bent from a crash. It was rideable but I couldn’t wait to change it.
I will be changing the left fairing as well. I am sure the bars will BUZZ on the street some. No matter, I will be riding it on the track mostly. Just hope the lowered front will give the bike sharper handling and not the reverse.

I have the Vortex clip ons on my 400. They are above the triple and the front was dropped about 5mm and no issues. I have done track days and 2 races with this set up and it makes easier to get into proper BODY POSITIONING!

I’ve also tried Woodcraft and Vortex below triple and their risers bump into triple-clamp and bars rub on fairings. Issue has nothing to do with clip-on. It’s that you have to cut fairings for clearance with any clip-ons under triple-clamp, generics or not.

Oh that’s just generic photo I found. I stopped using warmers after 1st season. With waves of multiple classes going off, tyres lose any extra heat from warmers anyway. I also noticed instructors at trackdays going out on worn-out slicks with cord showing and no warmers. And they’re hell fast!!!

I lower front-end with 20mm of fork-tube showing for bigger tracks. For tighter ones like Laguna Seca or Sears Point, I lower it to 24mm

That’s good too know. I will be using the 250 on the tighter tracks like NYST and Shenandoah. The 400 will be my race bike. The gixxer 750 maybe the less technical tracks like Summit Point and NJMP.

I haven’t used warmers since like 2010. Scotty from MotoD will give me a good deal, just don’t need them.

Nice, I like that dash, what brand is it and what does it show? I would like a gear indicator and coolant temp gauge. I don’t need a gas gauge.

It comes from a Fischer bike but it is the same as Koso RX2. It has Oil and Water temperature (adapter is needed for oil) but no gear indicator. The back plate was custom made. Now is real carbon fiber.

WOW!!!! That is a nice looking bike! My compliments. What brand and size tires are those? I went with the Michelin Power RS, 110/70 front and 140/70 rear. I definitely need a gear indicator for the track. All my other bikes have it.

Hey guys.

Sorry i'm a lil late in tthe posting. I found why my input, above had been mis-informative. ( about clip-ons, and what brand, etc, to get them to work UNDER the thriple clamp.)

First video I saw was clip-ons for the ninja 300. Not the 250. (Woodcraft)

The other video I saw, ( for the 250) where the clip-ons were flush, against bottom of of triple clamp was a brand called " SHINTO". Don't know if thats an actual recognized brand, or if it's knock-of cheap stuff from Ebay/Amazon. So thank you Danno, for your input. You were right. I was ALLLMOOST right.

But now I just might try putting them on again, this weekend, (above the clamp) just to see if there is any riding by seat difference. My bars are maybe, about half an inch lower than stock. (If that) but it loes lower the front end some, to get the forks flush to the top of the clamps. Will see. ( if I haven't tossed them allready)

Found out, i did not toss mine away.

I installed them ABOVE the triple clamp. They are about a half, to 3/4 inch lower than stock. The bars angle downward is a bit more though. Lowers the front end. Appears more agressive stance. ( front fender tucked more into the body,) can facilitate full lock to lock. Nothing gets in the way, except maaaybe my pinky. Just barely. Slightly lower riding position. Front end DROPS into turns. Not twitchy, but it doesn't take much at all. Just rails into curves. I wanted them to fit BELOW the clamp. Just not possible, unless you want to cut into bodywork. I'm actually happy with them though. Better than I thought it would be, body position wise.

I was about to toss mines in the parts bin. I got a set of Driven clip ons that had a 2 1/2 rise. Turns out they were the wrong size, they were way too big, didn’t fit the forks. I listened to the Great Danno and put them above the triple tree. Drops the front end and fits fine. Haven’t been able to ride the bike yet. The forks are off to the shop for Race Tech springs, heavier weight fork oil and pre load adjusters! I am sure the bike will feel different with the clip ons and rear sets and worked front forks!
