Daughter was on the 250, and I was on the Yamaha DT100 for those who didn't know.

Funny when the fast bikes passed us. We usually keep it down to about 40 since the whole Dragon has a 30 MPH speed limit. The turns are still plenty of fun at that speed, but we don't get tickets, and going fast in the straights isn't really much fun anyway.

where's all the stop lights? stop signs? shopping centers, shopping malls, van driving soccer moms, texting, weaving idiots?

Hey, looks like you had fun down there. That DT was haulin' butt, eh Jim? Impressive. Sure looks like Ducati country.

The DT100 ran pretty well. The increased exhaust duration didn't hurt the bottom and mid at all. Georgia got 67 mpg with the 250 carbs you rebuilt, too. We checked a couple tanks.

You would have a blast on a Ducati there. Next year's meet is May 3rd to May 10th. If you think you want to attend, let me know.

Wow, 67 mpg most impressive. Looked like quite a number of bikes are attracted to the area, with the influx it brings income, financial stability to the local area? That hotel looked packed.

This was the 20th annual 2-stroke meet, and we reserve the whole Deals Gap Motel for the week. We already have it booked for next year. I've attended for ten years so far.

You're right about the area. That whole region is motorcycle-friendly and caters to the needs of riders.

Not encouraging doing anything illegal, but I've gone ~60 through some corners there and 90+ past a bike cop and he didn't even turn his lights on. I've never seen anyone get a ticket who stayed in their lane and in control.

It must have been a while for you then. Guys in our group as well as others have gotten tickets in recent years for 10 mph over or more. They sit at a hairpin turn and point their radar guns at anyone approaching in either direction.

it would make sense that with such an influx of bikes, speeding will be evident, if not rampant. the Dragon being so well known, its not a secret that some street racing will, in fact, occur.

The local constabulary are obliged to enforce, while the funding aids their budgets. A simple fact of life.

They get a death or two there each year, so mainly the cops just try to hold that down so they don't get blamed for contributing to the problem.

One day last week one of our guys came back saying that he saw a guy on a Harley get a ticket. We were all shocked until it came out that it was for crossing the line. That day the cops were giving out tickets for crossing the center line, but not for speeding.

I was up there last fall on the bikes, and during hurricane Florence in my Miata. I try to go to the dragon every year. Now that it's only 4 hours away taking the car there is not a big deal at all. The bike needs to be trailered though.

Cool. It's amazing how many guys in the motorcycle world drift through the meet. Come on by next year, May 3rd - May 10th.

I just watched the video again. It actually felt a little like when we were actually riding. It got me worked up for being there in a couple weeks. I still need to put the new stator coils in the DT100.

Ga's favorite photo of her on the 250:

Jim, your daughter was rolling stone cold smooth on that run. Riding in to the sun at 14:20 must’ve been unnerving. Most of the motorcycle runs I have on the Dragon were early to mid-morning. When I was out there in October 2018, I almost creamed a bear cub at the overlook. It was at sunset and that’s when I found out I cooked the brakes. The bear and I almost met face to face.

Thank you Richie. She really enjoys riding, and that road in particular, and she works at progressing her skill. She started out on the kart/supermoto track with my DT100 roadracer and I could see that she was getting the hang of it pretty well.

I got pretty close to a bear cub on route 28 on a morning bicycle ride while I was at Deals Gap for the week. The cub didn't pay much attention to me, but I was sure keeping an eye out for its mother! It was still around down by the river when I was on my way back from the dam and there was a small crowd standing around watching it. There's no way I would have hung around there!
