Goodbye Zorak (Ninja 250)
I was maybe one of the last of the “Ticket to Ride” Ninjette 250 winners still here?
However, 8 years and many adventures from an attempted theft to accidentally (!) riding in an ice storm without mishap later, I’ve put the candy green 2012 Ninja in trade in. Goodbye. Also, hello! After tons of research I can’t find anything better suited to my needs than the Ninja 400 ... so the trade is for the gray/black/green 2019 ABS. Way back in the day I thought I’d get a Ninja 250 someday and then upgrade to the 500 ... turns out I did essentially ‘cause the 400 has more power and less weight than the original 500. (Pics edited out as I’ve botched it all up via tablet) Guess the Ninjette bug doesn’t wear off. |

OOoh, new toy! I've been looking at the 400s myself, because shiny! I need to test-ride one.

Welcome back!!
Need to look up your specs. EX500 has about +15hp advantage over 400. About 0.5-sec. faster in 1/4-mile and 15mph faster top-speed. The EX500 was most unappreciated bike of all time. Probably because its chassis was designed more for touring than sports riding. |

Yesterday's attempt to take delivery was washed out by a sudden torrent. I picked it up this morning and enjoyed a 38F ride in drizzle on new/slippery tires, so all the performance is theoretical at this point. |

The 400 does have lower specs on paper, but it doesn't feel noticeably slower than my 500. While I would love a bit more displacement/power (torque specifically), I'm very happy with the 400 as a sidegrade from my 500. In pretty much every other aspect, it's what I wanted the 500 to be from the start.
While the stock suspension is better than the 500's was, I still plan to get springs to match my weight, and possibly some other related upgrades. It's nice that they have a spot in the dash for a lighter plug. Kawasaki sells the socket for $85 and the harness relay to power it for another $25. Or you can buy a generic relay and a USB power socket on Amazon for under $20 total. I should probably write up the details of that project some day...

Yeah, the extra weight of EX500 masks its higher power. An 0.5s difference in 1/4-mile can't be felt, really would need to pull out stop-watch. In drag-race, 0.5s @ 100mph is about 70-ft ahead crossing finish line.
