Five days and some more freight antics later, bikes were back on track – a partly refurbished track – in a slightly different order than usual, with the intermediate class opening the show this time around. In a familiar sight, Augusto Fernandez took centre stage throughout the first practice session in Austin, initially by leading the way and then by causing yellow flags at turn 16 in the final couple of minutes, which sealed the deal on top spot for the Spaniard. Cameron Beaubier embraced the return on home soil, only missing out on grabbing the headlines by three hundredths of a second.
