'07 just lost power

So I just got a used '07 and I was driving along on the highway at around 70mph, temp was fine, rpm around 9-11 when the bike just started to 'lose power'. It just suddenly started to drop speed and I was able to get off to the side as it stop and died. Tried to let it sit and start it up again but it only started once for about 20 seconds and then I had no luck. Got it towed.

Any advice on what could be the problem? This is my first bike only had it for a week. Air bubble fluke? Spark plugs?

All advice/help appreciated.

And now I feel stupid thought my friend had given it to me with a full tank but 'aliens' must have taken some.

BIG ROOKIE/NOOB mistake not double checking gas tank.

-thanks
an embarrassed OP

Also new to the forum should I delete this thread as it is pointless? Just wondering.

Have you heard about reserve position of the petcock?

When you did run out of gas, you still had 1/2 gallon as reserve to be used just by turning the petcock handle to point forward.

Yes I have and that is partially why I thought something was wrong cause when I switched to res nothing changed.

However my friend told me the previous owner mentioned something about this but he neglected to tell me at the time.

O well lesson learned, notes taken, won't happen again.

When I first bought my 07 ex250 I did the same thing. Rode it everywhere for no reason. I did about 200 miles on it and it died on me 3 times while riding. Walked my bike home for about 3 miles. I didn't ride it for 3 days. Cleaned everything I could, changed the oil, flushed the coolant, did all the newbie things you learn and are comfortable doing when first getting a bike and put new fuel with some fuel system cleaner in there and she started right up. I realized all it was, was the gas after I took off the tank. At least I got a good washed a flushed coolants out of the ordeal and stress induced cleanings hahah. Welcome to the club.
