Faltered, lost power, and died at 50mph cruise.

Hey I've had the bike for about a week/400 miles and I experienced my first problem yesterday.

I was cruising at around 50mph, 4th or 5th gear probably -- along the highway and the bike faltered a bit -- felt like it lost power, so I gunned it and the engine sputtered for a second and shut off. I coasted to a stop, checked that it did actually have a half-tank of fuel (it did, I dipsticked the tank.) -- and tried to re-start the bike.

I cranked it over 3 or 4 times but it didn't fire up and I didn't want to drain the battery.

I sat on the bike for about 2 minutes with a puzzled look on my face and tried starting it again and she fired right back up and I went off on my way.

Rode for the rest of the day and didn't have any problems whatsoever.

Are there any documented experiences of these bikes just randomly dying for no reason and refusing to start right back up?

The cooling fan was not on, none of the oil/coolant lights came on, and everything else appeared fine.

Very strange.. felt like a bubble in the fuel line or something. Anyone?

That happened to me after having mine for about a week and 100 miles, my gas tank ended up being messed and gas got in the engine oil somehow, took kiwi almost 2 months to fix it before I got it back, hopefully your problem isn't as bad as mine was..

That sounds like it could be a fuel tank vent issue.

Vacuum builds in the tank as you use fuel and the fuel stops flowing. Given some time the tank slowly vents and fuel begins to flow again.

There should be info here on how to check it.

You have absolutely hit the nail on the head.

My gas cap has issues. I'm going to get elbow deep in maintenance today, so I'll report back with my findings. Thanks.
