I fixed your link... there is also a video section that this would fit better in

It's hard to see his speedo... but it definitely seems like he was going a bit faster than what the posted speed limit most likely was... luckily noone was hurt.

He wasn't going much faster than the Ranger next to him, and if you'll notice, the Ranger also had to slam on his brakes. The peds weren't in a crosswalk and it would have been their fault if they were hit. Not up for interpretation at all.

looks like the person on the bike wasn't thinking about why the person to the side of them was slowing down, saw the old people J-walking (who should have been hit for J-walking IMO) target fixed, locked up the rear and didn't have enough front brake.

if there's one thing i hate more than J-walkers, it's J-walkers who are slow and incapable of avoiding something like this. actually no, i hate those bastard hoodrats who see you coming and intentionally slow down to make you slow down. when i see those idiots doing that in my car i'll clutch-up a burnout to scare the idiots. maybe they'll think twice about ****ing with something that can kill them next time.

side note... not to hate but the guy driving doesn't seem very good at steering his bike... all over the place

It's true that his reaction could have been better.

Its true the peds werent in a crosswalk but...WTF...who ever is in the crosswalk.
The guy in the truck saw them and listen to the bike...he's accelerating for a good few seconds before he wakes up and sees them, he had way more than enuff time to back off.
Personally...I'd bet the biker was a little scumbag who wanted to scare the peds..IMHO of course. Riders like that put a bulls eye on the backs of the rest of us.

From what I can tell:

1. the bike wasn't going much faster than the truck until >
2. The truck had to slam on his brakes, making him nose dive.
3. It took the biker about 2 seconds to react.
4. They were jaywalking, BUT >
5. There was not a crosswalk in sight. The entire length of the street, from when he kept left on to it and then kept right off it, there was not a single crosswalk.

It seems to me that this video is highly persuasive evidence to the city to address the lack of crosswalks on that street.

[edit] After further review, the bike seems to be going very low 40s at the fastest, and had slowed down to 22 or 23 by the time he got to the pedestrians. I can't tell from the video what the SL is, but from experience, I'd say it'd be 30/35 ?

Holy ****! That was a close call!
I think he would've been better off swerving out of the way than hitting his brakes, but at least he didn't hit them.

Damn jaywalking grandmas...

Peds jump out right in front of me all the time, especially when riding at night. I like to gas it whenever a stupid person walks into my path. Gives them a quick reminder on how NOT to cross the street. I'm all for sharing the road but have some respect and let vehicles pass before crossing.

Maybe its a New York City thing but it pisses me off! Some neighborhoods are worse than others. This sort of thing NEVER happens when I'm driving my Land Cruiser, people run for their lives when that thing approaches.

I agree with Colin....The ranger was going around the same speed and if you notice there's a left turn coming up. Ranger could've easily been slowing to turn off from the rider's perspective. IMO, it's the elderly couple's fault if they were to get hit. Granted, there's no cross walks but if you KNOW you can barely get around, let alone run, then you should probably be crossing somewhere a bit safer.

so today on my way to work out this wrx was trying to screw with me and we pulled up to a red light... turns green and he goes to gun it but some idiot jogger was sprinting across the intersection (he had a red hand, we had green) and ALMOST got taken out by the wrx. locked up all 4 wheels and kinda did a little rotation thing. totally hillarious. wouldn't have been as funny if the guy got hit... i don't know why the wrx didn't see him, just not paying attention i guess... there was a car in front of me blocking the wrx's view of him (wrx was to my right), but he could have seen the jogger like 5 seconds before... just stupid people i guess... on both parts

+1. If anything he'd be helping

On a serious note, he seemed to have locked up a bit. Couldn't he swerve a bit more to the left? Even if the truck was next to him I felt like he had enough room...

Anyway. God damn elderly people.... Just sit at home! That's what I'll do!
