Handlebars misaligned and I have no center stand

Due to my recent wreck, handlebars are misaligned, doesn't look like the forks are bent but it's off center. I have read that you prop up the front, take off the wheel, loosen the cinch bolts and the top big bolt and it should go back to center then tighten everything back. This is my plan of action once I figure out how to get it up in the air. I don't have a center stand due to full muzzy exhaust. I have a car engine lift, would that help? Also, if my realignment plan sounds wrong, let me know, I've never attempted anything like this

I used stand alone jacks on the front and rear until I got my stands. The bike is far less stable on them as compared to the stands but it should work. Only catch is you have to have someone help you place the front or rear on the jacks

I wouldn't use a cherry picker to lift the bike but I'm sure someone has tried it. It only weighs approx. 330lbs.Not sure how you would rig it up though.

i have a muzzy on mine as well. I have stands to lift it. But when I replaced the shock I used my center stand. You just need to be a little creative. I used a 1/2" or 7/16 sae bolt, don't remember which size it was, but it was just a bit smaller than the metric one that goes in there and slides into place to put the center stand on and the bike up to do the work you would like.

Or you could pull your bike up next to a tree, stop sign, post, building, anything with some strength and bang the front wheel against it to get things lined back up. I did that after a crash and stuff was all out of whack.

Then after a month of banging them back and forth trying to get it to track straight again, I replaced the steering head bearings with roller bearings. That upgrade was better than the muzzy ever could be.

^^^ This. Or a folding ladder to make an A frame and a strap with a ratchet works great too

You guys are geniuses. I like the ladder idea, I have a stepladder I might try this with. I don't know about the banging it back into place although it may come to that
Center stand didn't come with the bike, I guess the previous owner got rid of it when they did the exhaust. Amy idea on what jet sizes I should use with the muzzy? It runs like poo low end.

Yup, ride up to a tree, and turn hard into it. Fixed.
Just fixed the KLR like that 2 weekends ago.

Should stop first or just slow down?

I guess it depends on how good you are. A novice might want to stop first I suppose.

No need to lift the bike to align the forks. The handlebar risers keep the fork tubes from sliding up through the triple tree, so just loosen bolts, grip the wheel between your legs, and twist the bars. If the tree is bent then it may require force to hold the bars straight to the wheel while the bolts are tightened. If no amount of force will hold the bars straight then the tree is bent and should be replaced.

Look at the risers to make sure they're not bent, there should be no gap where they bolt to the top of the tree.
