Taco Date 2UP

Yes. Finally convinced my wife to hop on. Before she was dead scared of motorcycles but I convinced her. Bought her some gear and we did some practicing in a parking lot for a few days and last night we took the back streets to go eat some tacos.

Things I expected:

Helmets bumping.
Slower riding
very early braking

Things I did not expect:

Fidgety passenger
Every bump we went over caused her to slide forward and press her weight against me which then transferred to my arms. Anytime we braked, this would happen too. I would then transfer that weght to my legs to try to relax my arms but there was still weight on my arms and my back. My "two soldiers" also received some of that weight...uncomfortable

Passenger would grab my pockets instead of my waist.
Passenger would lean into turns (advice she received from someone else) even though I told her to just relax and not lean since hardly any leaning from me (the rider) was required.

Feedback my 250 gave from any movement made by passenger.

Good thing is that she is interested in learning to ride.

The 250 held up. Our weight combined was almost to 300 lbs.

Normally I hear people say that the suspension sucks on the 250 but I love the crappy suspension. I love feeling every bump on the road. I like to know the condition of the road I am riding on.

However, 2UP suspension on a 250 was not so great. Would I do it again?
Yes.

Things I did not disclose:

How I convinced her.

How good the tacos were.

Question:
Seat modification to help with the sliding or is this a practice to improve for both of us?

I noticed the stock vinyl or whatever the hell it is when I got the bike was kinda slick. I had mine recovered with Harley Davidson leather (due to a crap load of tears), and my ass stays planted to the seat now. (Also looks pretty sweet)

So maybe just changing the material could help? I'm new to bikes no not exactly sure. I'm still focusing more on keeping the bike upright at this point lol.

Been there, done that. I had a friend who owned a bar in South Padre Island. I've been there for some thing called "Spring Break". Many tacos consumed during this "Spring Break" affair.

have her reach around you and place her hands on the tank. This way when you stop she can brace herself with her arms. I did this when I was a passenger.
Tell her to keep her body inline with yours while riding and to try to stay still.
You can also have her take the MSF (learn to ride), or take advanced course with you (as a passenger).

I'm not a fan of two up... After my first experience I removed the passenger pegs, changed the exhaust, and put on a cowl... Problem solved

That should keep her from sliding around.

....I guess I'm just an old perv but I've always enjoyed giving my lady a ride on the bike: the gentle pressure of her form pressed against me etc. Now don't mistake me; I'm not all drooly and creepy about it; it's an unintended but pleasant consequence.
As far as how to ride: as gently and smoothly as possible so they are feeling as confident as possible and enjoying the ride. No hard braking or quick turns etc. If you're banging helmets, having the jewels squished against your tank or she's trying to avoid the turn: it's you, not her!
I've never had a passenger that didn't want to go for another ride again! Even my mom and she hated bikes!
Please excuse the squid: it was from another era:

Im not saying she didnt enjoy the ride. She did. She wants to learn now. I'm the one who had most of the discomfort but I am sure there is a way around it. Would I do it again? Yes but this time trying it a different way.

With bio-engineering 70's shorts on 70's shorts offspring will soon be commonplace.

Nice What did she end up doing to stop from sliding on the seat? the first time I went for a ride that happened to me over and over again. I quickly learned to use my legs to grip my man's hips/legs and never slid forwards again. Only time I would put my hands on the tank was if we were coming to a stop downhill while riding fast through twisties. Otherwise I wouldn't be close enough for my short arms to reach the tank.

Quick question for you - how do you and your wife feel about 2 up riding? Am I the only one that finds it to be almost an intimate thing, something that gives a feeling of closeness when experiencing it with someone you love?

@Ninja Rob,
If you like the feeling thru the "Crappy suspension on the Ninjette" just wait till you feel the road thru some really good quality, well set up suspension!

I'm ok with crappy suspension when I'm riding by myself. I feel it gives me better feedback of the condition of the road that I am on.

On 2up, I would prefer smooth suspension because every little bump I go over amplifies and rocks the entire bike.

Overall, we both liked 2up. Can't wait to do it again.
